I just got off of the NWS web site and they are saying that I will have 4 to 8 inches of fresh snow for bow hunting this weekend in NE Iowa! There is a winter storm watch for NE Iowa, SE Minnesota and SE Wisconsin for tomorrow (Friday) into tomorrow night. They aren’t sure about the amounts yet but they are saying a swath of 4″ to 8″ from Charles City to Decorah to LaCrosse. I hunt in Allamakee county which should be near the heavy stuff. Now I am really looking forward to bow hunting this weekend. Even an inch or two would be great. With the snow I will be able to see so much further in the tenure and the timber. I can’t wait.

Good luck and I hope that stuff stays south!! I’ve still got eyes and muskies to chase.

They are predicting an inch or two for the metro, so I suppose MnDot will drop about 4″ of salt on every road around! I’ve gotten to hate their salt more than the snow!

They really dump the salt on the streets here in Dubuque too. By January the steets will be bleached white because of all the salt. We do have lots of hills that sand just wouldn’t work on so I guess the only alternative is salt. I’ve been up at my daughter’s in St. Cloud after snowstorms and they use very little salt up there but then they don’t have the hills like we do.

I lived in Ely for 5 years and they didn’t salt at all, maybe a little sand on the hill coming into town, and I remember my vehicle having better traction in the snow than it does in the slush created by all that damn salt.

Flat as a pancake here in southern Wi , and I cant belive the salt they dump!! I’ll take the snow over the salt too. Salts bad for everything , from equipment to the environment , people need to learn how to drive in the snow.

Been a few years since we have had nice snow cover for 1st or 2nd season of shotgun season in zone 4. Can’t wait!! Beats the 65 degree’s and sunny that we had last weekend.

was watching the tv while up north hunting, when home was getting the snow and they said they are going to be spraying a chemical down on roads this year to reduce the amount of salt being used. The chemical is supposed to last 5 to 6 days, where the salt is pretty much gone the next day.

Maybe the roads won’t be as slushy or cars won’t rust as fast, idk.

I didn’t see the whole story, so does anybody know anymore about this solution.
