I live in an area full of A holes. hmmm can i say A holes. The propertys surrounding mine are the bedding areas and homes of the deer. Well, these jerks are against hunting, so, at about 4:00 pm (the time these deer move the most) They are out shooting ” target practice” which totally keeps them bedded until past dark.
Any ideas on how to get even???

I believe target practice is illegal during the deer season unless its at a range. contact your local warden.

Then make sure you light off some killer bees at 2am outside thier house.

Can someone show me in the regulations book or mn statutes, where it states it is against the law to discharge firemarms on private property, in rural country, during hunting seasons?

    That isn’t illegal.

Also, since they are on private property, their own property, if I’m reading this correctly, it isn’t “hunter harrassment”.

It does suck, but by rights, they have broken no law.

You cant discharge a firearm(target practice) for X amount of time before the deer hunting season starts. There is nothing I know of to restrict a erson from shooting on their own property during the deer hunting season… unless their shooting at you!

They might be against hunting, but they may not go out shooting if you go over there and ask them not to.

    Good luck.

I looked over the regs, where does it say this?

    I found this:

No person may possess a firearm or ammunition outdoors during
the period beginning the fifth day before the open firearms season
and ending the second day after the close of the season within an area
where deer may be legally taken by firearms (see page 32), except:
    • A person who has a valid firearms big game license in possession
may hunt big game during the open season with a firearm and
    ammunition authorized for big game.
    • Possession is also legal under these conditions:
    a) An unloaded firearm that is in a case or in a closed trunk of a
    motor vehicle.
    b) A shotgun and shells containing No. 4 buckshot or smaller
diameter lead shot or nontoxic shot.
    c) A .22 caliber rimfire handgun or rifle with .22 caliber short,
    long, or long rifle cartridges.
    d) Handguns possessed by a person with a carry permit.
    e) On an authorized target range.

    However;
I would find it very difficult to charge this person in the courts, if they are soley gun owners and do not ever buy a license.

Also, define an “authorized” target range……

I suggest looking through the laws of your area and find some way have legal grounds. I have gone through this with my fathers neigbors. We called the police and they went over and it only took 4 or five times for them to quit shooting around deer season. I had an easy time because I am in the metro area and there are strict laws. If you take revenge you are really no better than them. But it sounds like to me they could get hit with hunter harrasment. One person I know had a PETA member next door and she was told by police that she would be charged if she bothered hunters anymore. It worked.

Good luck we are still having trouble with our neighbors.

next time this happens… I would gather all firearms and ammo I have… line up at the edge of the property line as close to their position as possible… run around wildly shooting the firearms (in a safe manner towards pre-determined targets)… all the while screaming and and shouting like a mad man.

Im confused! Most anti’s typically wouldnt own guns–even for “target practice”. Im not saying its not possible, but something doesnt seem square here. Ive never met a “target shooter” who owns guns to be against hunting (maybe bowhunting). They may not partake, but to go to such extremes seems incompatible.

Most people who are against hunting drive little hybrids (ALL THE TIME), are vegans, and loathe guns of any type, as they see them as a symbol of unedumacated types that believe in American ideals such as self-preservation and general mistruct of large govt.

Have you tried talking to them?? How do you know they are “A-Holes”?? Have you talked to them before?? Are they worried about getting a slug through Jr’s room wall maybe??

Disclaimer: I hope my words, punctuation or general assertions have not insulted or disrespected anyone viewing this post, particularily those on the “IDA Steering Committee”

The poster didn’t specify if the land is private where the target shooters are. On all state and federal lands in Minnesota it is illegal to target shoot at any time of the year. I did not see anything specifically pertaining to private land, but I do recall hearing years ago that being out in the woods shooting within “X” amount of days prior to the rifle season was illegal…..maybe an old law, or maybe just common knowledge, either way the phone system at the DNR is down so we will have to wait to get our answer directly.

The area i am in is between CR86 in Dakota and 19 in Rice county. It is all private land, unfenced, and connected. I say they are A holes because Im told they do this year after year. To the best of my knowledge, their intention IS to bed these deer down and ruin the afternoon hunt in the immediate area.

I would try talking to them first! Doesn’t sound like that avenue was tried yet as you referenced hearing some things from people who had trouble in the past. I would try to keep away from the “revenge” angle. You’ll get nothing but trouble from that! I’m sorry to hear about your bad luck though, but if you seek revenge, that will give us sportmen a bad rap! Talk to them and see what there beef is first! Just my .02 worth!

There are 2 rather long seasons for my zone. Its possible he’s hunting the 2nd. I cant exactly pinpoint the locations of the shots, but Ive been told a couple of the folks around here are known for it.

It is illegal to interfere with somone lawfully taking game but in that instance very hard to prove especially until you talk to them or warden or both. good luck
