Well for you guys who enjoy the stories like I do here goes. Was sitting on the stand yesterday morning, got there at about 6AM. It was a very quiet morning seeings how the leaves never frosted up overnight and were still wet. I have a hill behind me a drainage ditch in front of me and on the other side of that another hill going upwards. The property that I hunt stops at the ditch. I don’t know how many deer I’ve seen cruising, fighting, or chasing on the other hillside. So it was about 8:45 am and I had only saw 2 deer so I was going to sit there until 10 then I was going to get up and move to a stand up the ravine where I have a stand where my property line catches part of that sidehill. Well about 15 mins later I thought I heard a squirrel raised my eyes in it’s direction only to see him coming down the hillside to the bottom. He came down the whole hill without me seeing or hearing him.

He is only 50-60 yards away and working his way along the ditch, so I grunt at him, the 3rd time he snaps his head and looks right in my direction. Now I’m talking to him but he can’t hear me, it went something like, ok get your over here. He turns and keeps going down the ditch (they normally don’t cross right where I am, it is not the easiest for them) head to the west. I didn’t know if he was going to the west to cross the ditch or if he was going to stay on the other side. So I decide to give him a snort wheeze . He turns 180 degrees, not just his head this time so I definitely knew I had his attention this time. But once again he keeps going down the ditch. I’m thinking now what do I do? I was just going to throw another snort wheeze at him when he appears to be angling towards the ditch, going to the downwind side of me, imagine that . He starts coming up towards me right in line with a tree that I had ranged earlier at 28 yards. I draw when he gets behind some trees and brush about 10 yards before a shooting lane. Low and behold he decides to stop there and look for the deer that isn’t there . So he stands there for what seemed like 5 minutes, probably 1 1/2 – 2 minutes at full draw. I could’ve never done that without alot of practice which strengthens those muscles as well. So yeah in a sense practicing paid off for me this year. Anyway, so he finally gets into the opening, and I was going to let him step thru that one, because there was a bigger one just past the first one. He stops in the first shooting lane and looks around, and then the thing all bow hunter kringe at, he snaps his head straight up at me, I’m thinking ra ro raggy!! He probablly saw my arm shaking . He stomps at me and I decide it’s now or never. I put it right behind his shoulder and touched it off. THWACK!! He turns and runs away, with my arrow sticking out of him Not the way I invisioned it. I thought I heard him go down but wasn’t sure if it was just him running through the brush. I waited about 10 mins after I settled down and caught my breath and then backed out. I was going to stop by the landowner’s house next to me and ask if he or both of us could go look for it, but it just so happened that I ran into him on the road as he was going into the woods. So we met up at his house at 1:15 pm and he drove us back there. we went to my stand found first blood about 30 yards from where I shot him and he only went another 70 yards after that. The pieces of lung where he ran made me feel a little better that I was going to find it. So here it is it’s not a monster but my taxidermist rough scored him around 137″

Thanks everyone it sure was a great day in the woods that day, but the greatest thing about that day and then posting the story and pics on IDA was an IM I recieved from (I’m assuming a young man) and hopefully an up and coming bowhunter Here’s the IM

“That was a great story. I was thinking of taking up the sport. A friend said I can try out his bow. Now I will for sure. Thanks for the inspiration.”
