Hey Andy, welcome to the site. Where you located and what kind of timber are you hunting, hardwoods etc? is there any water around and what are the farmers planting, has it been picked? Any alfalfa?

November 5, 2006 at 3:01 pm #24069For me it is still too warm and a lot of the rutting action is going to take place at night!! I am not a Rut expert by any means but I would say if you are hunting a feeding site they might not be comming there untill late since Bucks really do not eat now. At this point I have given up on the food sites and have targeted runways to bedding areas that hold Does!
Like I said I am no expert but I thought I would throw my .02 at you

November 5, 2006 at 3:20 pm #24071Andy is your ground flat ground or does it have ridges? If it has ridges I like ridges and saddles in theses ridges. It is ok to hunt a food source right now but I would do it in the morning seeings how we have a full moon right now. If you can come from the wood side of the food source (as to not be detected) and hunt them as they are coming off the food source. I have seen tons of activity in the morning right now Kinda kills me to not be able to be out right now There are so many variables that you could do but not knowing your land it would be hard for us to point you in the right direction. Draw a pic and post it if you can that would be a big help.

November 5, 2006 at 5:19 pm #24075Im hunting on a ridge west of rochester. there are a lot of big trees. Its a natural funnel area where if the deer come through there then your gonna see them. There is a bedding area behind me, and a feeding area out infront and at the bottom of the hill. I am sitting in a big oak tree. There is also a hay feild out front to. So there is all of my information that i can come up with off the top of my head. I also do archery so if that is any help.

You might have answered your own question of why you are not seeing them!!
I would try and move the stand location a little, if it is a funnel and they are comming through it might be that you are one way or the other too far. They love the thick stuff so of you are in a wide open area try to get into the thick stuff. At this point in time you are not going to be able to clear a shooting lane so find some natural ones! My best advise!!
