I have a series of pics of a buck that was shot in Buffalo County on, of all days, Friday, October 13th. He green scored 163 and weighed in field dressed at 270. Aged at 5 1/2+. These are pics “on the hoof” and otherwise………

shaylaPosts: 1399October 18, 2006 at 3:32 am #22782That last pic is AWESOME! Does he look like he’s ready for action or what? Nothing more regal than a large midwestern buck in the prime of his life….I never get tired of seeing pictures like that.

Nice deer!
From what I read that county can grow some beasts!!
I believe that Buffalo county is the number one county for most B & C entrys in the country. Try to buy land over there, wooded acres ive seen go for 5 grand an acre, we just tried to get a AWESOME wooded back 40 from a guy and it went for 110,000.
awesome buck, and i bet that one was fun to drag

October 18, 2006 at 12:10 pm #22794I think what Brian is saying….
The land is getting terrible up here. Prices are going crazy. Two years ago you could of bought land here for under $2000 an acre. Now it is going for almost $5000. This price as wrecked it for a lot of locals. Families have been broken apart because of the greed of money. I Know I have seen it! Bucks grow big here in Buffalo county because there is no great pressure and Quality Deer mangament is practiced. There is no public land and all the land is leased. I am glad I got my 254 aces almost 15 years ago.
Not that anyone would ever want CWD. We just need something to happen to get the land prices back down.

October 18, 2006 at 12:18 pm #22795I live in Madison WI, and let me tell you, CWD is about the worst thing you would ever want in your area. I’m still unsure of how I feel about the disease whether its just naturally occuring and will just run its course and be done with or if its a serious threat to deer populations, but our “friendly” DNR thinks that all the deer should be slughtered in the area which I mostly hunt. Right now its open season for rifle hunting. 4 free tags a day, shoot as many as you want. Some of the prime areas I have had are pretty much now void of deer. The problem isn’t the guy going out and tagging a deer here and there, but they have hired sharp shooters who hunt at night over huge piles of corn. I have heard reports from neighboring farmers who have seen them shoot 30+ deer a night. Apparently if its brown its down. Whether its a 150 class buck or a fawn doe. I am fortunate enough to have a farm to hunt in Trempeleau county which is pretty good hunting, but its hard to even justify going out around here any more.

mike careyPosts: 56October 18, 2006 at 12:29 pm #22732The majority of the people hunting buffalo county are rich people from out of state big wigs from chicago. I remember 10 years ago when the only people you seen down here hunting were people know or grew up with. Things have gotten out of control!

October 18, 2006 at 2:45 pm #22805Wow! A guy posts a nice buck picture and we end up blasting rich Chicago guys? Change is a bi$ch and part of me understands that. I hope you don’t treat all out-of-towners with this attitude in mind. I hunt Buffalo County with a friend I played softball with for years and we never connected that he had good hunting land and I liked to hunt for almost ten years. Now the last three years, I’ve been fortunate to hunt this great county.
This family has had this land as recreational land for 40-50 years and the family comes in from Mpls, Cincinnati, out-state Illinois, and me the only guy with a WI license plate. I’m sure we look like rich “Chicagoans”, but you can’t make those assumptions just because you don’t know them.
This same issue roared through ND years ago when snow goose and duck hunting became so popular there. Blast the non-residents, post all the land, don’t let them come here. Why? We’re all hunters. Let’s get along.
Baby boomers are reaching retirement age and many have them have sizable retirement nest eggs (401k’s, pensions) and a growing number of them are using that nest egg to purchase recreational property. Then they invite their children and grandchildren to come hunt with them. This trend is going to continue for quite some time. Understand it, get used to it, figure it out. It is not going to change.
Nice deer by the way. I have one on a trail cam that looks similar and I’ll try to post it here. Also from Buffalo County near Cochrane.
