How to remove scent from boots?

I made a huge error the other day. While filling the gas tank on my 4-wheeler I accidentally got a little gasoline on my gortex hunting boots. I am looking for suggestions on how to eliminate scent from gortex boots. I do wear rubber boots most of the time while bow hunting but it would be good to know how to make existing boots scent free. This would also be helpful for my young son who sometimes goes with.
There are tons of sprays on the market which make it a bit confusing. Is there a spray that would correct this problem? Any sprays significantly better than the others?

If anyone has an “answer” to this problem I’d appreciate hearing from you. Happy Hunting!

I’d wash them in regular laundry detergent to cut the oils in the gasoline, then wash them again in a good scent killer then let them air dry. If your dryer is like mine with scented fabric softeners being used in it hang them to air dry. When dry spray again with raccoon, fox or any good cover ground scent and put in a plastic bag then use them when you get to your spot, maybe hold off if you wear them when going out to eat.

Simple Green – exceptionally good at removing anything oil or grease based… spray it on – let it soak in well – then hose it off, then my suggestion would be to wear them in the field and get them nice and wet / muddy – let em dry afterwords and the odor should be gone… either way they’ll smell natural by that point. After following all those directions try this. If you hunt on a farm with cattle just step in a cow pie or dig up fresh earth seems like deer may even come to a fresh earth scent as I think they think a deer is making a scrape.
