It is that time of year again to start thinking about this years deer contest, some of you have expressed an interest in keeping the same teams as last year and others have said that they want new teams.
I feel it would be difficult to keep the same teams as some guys that were in last year will not be in this year and there will be new guys as well. I do not think that any of the teams actually hunted together last year, this contest is more along the lines of Fantasy Football. I just feel in terms of competition, it may be fairer to draw new teams every year but to keep this fair we will take a vote on it.

Ok the first post for the vote with the poll was a bad idea there are some who did not read my whole post and did not follow the instructions so we are going to start the vote over as I want this to be fair.

Please read and follow these instructions very carefully

To vote send me a PM with the title “My 2006 Deer Contest Vote”

In the PM say one of two things…….
    Draw for new Teams
    or
Keep same Teams as last year

Please keep this simple for me and only put you vote in the PM I do not want and will not answer questions in these PM’s these are to be votes only. If you have questions please post them here.

Only those who want to enter the contest are eligible to vote so only send me a PM if you want to play as your vote will also be your entry into the contest.

The deadline for voting will be Monday September 11th at midnight.

I guess I would vote to have Muleys count under the same rules as Whitetails. A bucks tine must equal or be more than one inch. I believe there is no advantage to having muelys count. Just my opnion.

Hey Steve, not that I really care, other than I have a soft spot for mule deer. Why wouldn’t you allow them?? They don’t seem to offer any advantage over a whitetail from a scoring perspective. I also can’t beleive we have many western state hunters on here??

If I may offer my pocket change.

I think it would be unfair to add Muledeer to the contest. Most guys don’t have the opportunity to harvest one. I know I don’t. It probably wouldn’t be too fair to have a team who has no chance and another team that could have one or two chances. Everyone right now has the chance at a Whitetail.

That’s how I feel about it.

    Blue,

You would not get any extra points for a muley, they would count the exact same as awhtietail buck. How would that be unfair to you? That does not give anyone an upperhand??? Not grasping your logic there.

On the other side fo the ball Blue, what if I was hunting Muley only country or coutnry that has both???

Yeah, you know what, you are right.

Riddle me this Batman…..What’s wrong with keeping it Whitetails only? I didn’t play last year, so I don’t know if they were or weren’t allowed. If they weren’t, then let’s keep it the same.

    Take this Wonder Boy Robin,

    BAM! !DOINK! #$KAZOWEE!

Because, the contest may include a few people that may only get one shot at a buck and that buck might perhaps be a Muley.

    Got it Whiz kid?

I have no vested interest in this contest, so I apologize for stirring the pot. However, I simply wondered what the logic behind the ban on mule deer is??

Seems by the rules it wouldn’t matter deer type, especially since you are limited to one buck. Add to the fact that whitetail are far more apt to have more scoreable points. So I don’t see an advantage by allowing these deer in the contest.

Hey, and if it gets someone else interested in the contest and they are a western states hunter, added bonus. Just my two pennies.

P.S. Lord, I apologize for agreeing with a Mercury owner!

Is an elk considered part of the deer family? Muley’s, whitetails…who cares as long as you’re successful right? Plus, if I recall, you can only use your first buck that you shoot to enter the contest right? It’s not like there’s $$$ involved so lets have fun with it! We all know Rip’s team will win anyway!

To be honest I am not sure what the reason is for that rule? erick came up with the rules last year so we will have to see if he knows. If the majority of you want mule deer in the contest I see no reason not to include them.
