Stickboy sent me some pics of a buck mount he just got back. He shot it in 2004.
He was wondering about what it would score. What do you guys think?

    Nice buck Stickboy.

Is this buck a 9 point 4×5? or does it have a little point on the left? to make it a 5×5?

Stickboy are you sure on your spread measurement?? It appears to me that it is in the 17″ range +/- 1/2″

I scored it as a 5×5 with a inch G4 on the left. I would gross this Buck @ 124ish and it would net it around 117ish

    R L Ded.

    Brow(G1) 4.25 3.75 .5

    G2 7 7.5 .5

    G3 7.5 7 .5

    G4 5 1 4

    THK 14.25 13.75 .5

    MB 18.5 17.5 1

    Total 56.5 50.5 7

    Right 56.5

    Left 50.5

    Spread 17.0

    Gross 124.0

    Deduct 7.0

    Net 117.0

Just my best guess with the pics. Stickboy, give me a PM if you want and I can either tell you how to score it or we could get to gether and I can give it a whirl. Again Nice buck!

It does have a little point on the left. Only about 1/4″ either didnt grow or was broke off and rubbed down smooth .
Recheched inside mesurments after doing some research 17 3/4
You are real close (almost exact) on the g’s the beam length was a little longer rt. 18 3/4 and left was 19 3/4 and the thickness was another in. I am by no means an expert at measuring been tring all morning been any where from 140 1/2 down to 110 after deductions . The last time I tried I was at 125ish after dedutions. I figured that was real close.
This is by far the largest I have ever taken. Although I can only credit myself with 3 to date (in 15yrs.) I am no expert when it comes to deer hunting but I enjoy the time with friends and being out doors. I will look for the next one in years to come needing to be bigger, when I first saw this guy (before the shot) I would have told you guys 180 class Thats what I would chalk up to buck fever He ended up field dressing at 209 i was thinking of entering the big buck contest where we hunt (weight only)209 didnt stand a chance I beleive 228 won
Thanks for the help looks like you guys were alot closer than I was orig. just from pictures. I was hoping for 130 class, I was wishing in one hand and in another but will keep my eye open in years to come. Thanks again guys

ok—— finally got more that a few min. to sit down.
I hope you guys dont mind reading a little.
I started scouting a few weeks before season opener (gun), I know not enogh time but its all I can spare this time of the season. I looked at this pine tree peninsula down in a swampy area, I walked out to it and jumped a decent 8 point so I thought what the heck I set up here. Opening morning I climed up in the stand about an hour early. Day break came and I herd alot of snoting and grunting and some brush being abused but he decided to go out the other way . About 9am a small fawn came through and then another doe 15 min later I chose to pass as it was opening morning especially on the fawn as they could be a futre buck . about an hour later a real nice 8 point came walking across a ridge line, I wathched him for a while as he walked parellel to me trying to decide wether or not too harvest him or not. I decided that I would as he would be the largest to date. It was a good shot he ran off to a pine island as I lost site of him after a little searching he ran no more than 120 yards. That ended the morning hunt. there was 2 of us that harvested buckes that morning. All my friend gave me a hard time telling me i couldnt shoot another buck unless it was larger than the one I got in the morning. They may have been joking but I took it seriously and still do even though they wouldnt care. I think (my personal opinion) you should try to get some thing better than what you previosly harvested, doesnt mean i wouldnt take a smaller one again but for now I am in search of some thing bigger. Any way not to get off the subject that afternoon I moved my stand so I could see the other side of the peninsula. About an hour and a half before dark this guy shoed his face, seing he was definatly larger than the last and like I said buck fever took over I didnt think there was a larger deer in the state. I chose to harvest him as well knowing for sure he was going to be on the wall. i took a shot placing what I thought would be perfect . He droped in his tracks thrashed around for a few seconds and that was it. 5 min. later I see him stand up and start walking towards me well at 60 yds. away he even got bigger probally in the 500 class, I needed some serious asprin for my fever. i paniced a little as I didnt want him to get away so I put the cross hairs on his chest and gave him another where he dropped again. It was about 20 min. before quiting time so I watched him for ten then climed down to go meet with my friends and brag a little . After draging him out One of my friends drove the wheeler back there and ran over his head . Then I sent him home with his brother (another friend of mine) I left specific instuctions to hang him by the antlers and he had the rope around his neck . Calling another friend over to help we untied him and as my friend was untieing the rope (a toe rope with big metal hooks) he let go of one end (with the big metal hook) came flying down the side of the deer and hit me square in the eye giving me a 1″ cut across the eye socket . All in all I am excited to have him back, the only thing I wish I could have changed was let the littler one go but live and learn I guess. At least now before every season I can look at what I need to top, take a mental picture and gor for a true 180 class with out the fever. Thanks for reading if you made it this far I enjoyed typing it as much as telling it

    Hows the eye?

Great story Stickboy. That is the exact reason I’m so obsessed . I’ve said it many times but the highs and lows a deer season can bring on is the best. One minute you are on top of the world, the next you are getting stomped on by it, or feel the pit in the bottom of your stomach. Thanks for sharing your story.

Nice looking buck Stick boy! Those are some dark horns! Doesn’t look like the rope across the throat hurt the mount any! I think there might have been some jealous boys in camp with you!

Rob…you’re are a deer scoring machine!
