Well after having a disasterous night last night. i got some great news today. my bow blew up on me! the string snapped courtesy of a bad cam that wore down the string to the point of breaking. the cam was faulty meaning it had a big ding in the inside where the string comes around. well anyway this wore it down enough that it snapped on me. thats what we think happened any way, seeing as theres a big chunk of metal missing in the the cam now. Well the night went from terribal to worse! After breaking my bow on the second shot of the night i had to quikly sight in the demo bow that was out there and get it ready for the league shot that was supposed to be going on already! well any way the first shot with trying to sight in the demo bow went way low and ended up skimming accross the floor and right into an air hose that it penetrated for the pop up targets.. well anyway after patching that up i tried to get the bow sighted in and managed just fine. we the started to shoot the league which i shot very poorly in because the bow wasn’t sighted in good enough with just six shots to sight it in… But i was hiting the targets which was good. So then we get towards the end and at this point i had shot all 5’s on the targets, when a 30 yard target pops up and i forgot to put the sight on the top of the target to get it to fall into the kill zone, and i shot right under it and hit another air hose . at this point i said screw this and called it a night with 2 more rounds to go. so now i have to re shoot that week of the league and to top it all of i broke my bow. Well i left the bow there for the night to have the owner look at it and give me a call today. he said he would have it fixed by tomrrow for me at no cost to me! . as a matter of fact he is driving to mathews company store tomorrow and getting new cams to put ont he bow and a new limb that shattered in the blast. But the funny thing is on the shot i hit the target exactly where i was aiming and then it blew up on me. I tcould have been alot worse… But im just glad mathews is taking responsability for there products. I never wanted to test out the warrenty on that bow but it’s great to know it’s there if a freak accident like this happens again. ill try and get a picture of the cam that caused the damage when i pick up my bow tommorow. (two days after that happened is pretty impresive!)well sorry for this long story but i thought you might want to here it. I will continue to shoot mathews for there products and there great service. one fluke accident isn’t going to stop me! they would still get my money for the next bow i buy! if it happens again i might think different but now i am not switching from the switchback XT!

March 1, 2006 at 1:09 am #15503the funny thing is, is that before that happened i was out in the show room drawing back different bows to see if i made the right desicion as far as smoothness. needless to say the hoyt was the least smooth then the bow tech and the mathews were the smoothest! personal preferance though! there all great bows

March 1, 2006 at 1:29 am #15507Yeah, you’re lucky you didn’t get hurt! I was at the range last summer when some dude got whacked on the melon from his cam. Broke his nose!

March 1, 2006 at 1:33 am #15508yeah i could feel the breeze off the string as it whipped by my head in a direction i wasn’t expecting! it was probobly an inch or two away from my eye. some how i got right back at it. I was amazed i did what could have been 800.00 worth of damage without the warrenty within about 30 minutes . that reminds me i still owe the archery shop owner two new air hoses

March 1, 2006 at 3:57 am #15512The Mathew’s MQ1 was notorius for blowing up. People who tried shooting fingers were the only ones having problems. But, true to Mathew’s form, their customer service is second to none, and all were fixed or replaced
I also know of a guy that had a Mathew’s bow break while he was out in New Mexico on a hunting trip. A phone call to Mathew’s and a new one was overnight’ed and saved the hunt
Hoyt is the same way with their customer service. My buddy had one blow up on him at a shoot. The string slapped him in the face and the limb cracked him on top of the head. Man did that knock him goofy Hoyt repaired his bow and gave him a nice jacket to boot for his troubles.March 1, 2006 at 3:57 am #425440The Mathew’s MQ1 was notorius for blowing up. I am shooting a new Oneida Extreme Eagle…it is an awesome bow. I shot a spot target today and shot 296/300. Now I am 60 years old but have not shot spots in a LONG time. I still shoot quite a few 3D shoots …but mainly hunt.
The bow is only set at 57#@29″ but I am getting 240-242 through the chrony with a fairly heavy (390) gr arrow. I believe the IBO rating is 308 fps.
Too bad there are so few dealers for these bows they are NOTHING like the Oneidas of years past. Much quieter and faster. No one thats drawn one will argue they are the smoothest bow on the planet. Even the Mathews and Hoyt guys will admit to that.
Good Shooting!

March 1, 2006 at 1:49 pm #15515Tom, do the new Eagles still have the let off in the limbs ? I bought one about 10 years ago, and was too scared of too many variables with that bow. It seemed everything was moving and collapsing. I shoot a Hoyt V-tech now and am very satisfied. Before that, I had a Golden Eagle 3D. Nice, but not as quiet and fast as the new Hoyt.
