You haven’t tried the smoothest of the top 10 (speed) bows on the market…Oneida Black Eagle.

Very odd looking bow there, The reason i picked these bows are they are the top selling bows on the market, and the shops around the area and experts with these, its like taking a mazda to the ford dealership, they ahve an idea but dont deal with em everyday

What made you switch to a mathews? I like the mathews but dont like how unsmooth it was to draw it back.

I’d have to go with the Ross Bow. My wife’s son just started shooting them, he took first at The Badger State Games, Second at the World Archery Tournament in Las Vegas, First at Wisconsin State Indoor Tournament, and is competing at the Midwest Sectionals this week. He had been shooting the Merlin, but he said there is no comparison to the Ross. My wife is looking at getting a new Ross for hunting this fall. They offer a 28,31,34,37″ and a competition bow. They are in draw weights of 40/50, 50/60, 60/70; over 300fps speed, 80% standard letoff, 65% optional letoff; and they weight about 4 to 4.5#

Matthews is the leader. Are you a follower or the leader?

Here is my take on Mathew’s being a front runner is bow sales. Take a look at all the marketing that Mathew’s does. They are putting out some serious money in television commercials, magazine ads, and only having select dealers sell their bows. I have nothing against Mathew’s, they are a great bow. But, there are other companies that also have great bows, but don’t have the marketing skills that Mathew’s utilizes.

i agree with amwatson on that one.

I think most people getting into bow hunting only see mathews and dont really look into other bow companys, thats why im trying to get the best bow for the money. If i can get a comparable bow for 500 bucks why spend the 800 on a mathews mostly paying for the name. I dont mind spending the money on a quality bow if there isnt something comparable.

I have to agree with Mike on this one.
I have devoted much of my life to Archery…I started my serious shooting for Golden Eagle Bows when I shot out of Whiffen Archery in Milwaukee in the late 1970s…then in the 1980’s I moved “up” to Hoyt for a sponsor. PSE and Hoyt were on top and spent the lion’s share in advertising. Over the years I shot for Browning, American Archery, and Oneida.

Its tough to say Mathews is the “leader”. They certainly do not dominate NFAA or PAA target archery…nor do they “dominate” the ASA 3D circuits. Matt McPherson(Mathews owner) ia a great innovater and very bright guy…His bows get better and better. The ICON is still my favorite among the 5 or 6 I’ve owned. They are among the top Hunting bows out there…Ross bows are also very impressive.
Like fine rifles…everyone is going to have a favorite…

As was mentioned before…go to a big shop or bow league and try as many as possible!

what i ment is you wouldnt take a rotary engine to be worked on by a guy who deals in ford type engines, only a few smart people can work on them rotary engines.
