Personal Best

Wow! That’s all I can say after the first shotgun season here. not only did I get four deer this year, I got a real nice 8 pointer that was a personal best until about 3 hours later when I topped that with a nice 12 point buck.

The 12 pointer was one of about 8-10 deer that came walking out of the timber right at me during a drive. I just stopped right in the middle of the field, and I’m not sure they even knew I was there as they were walking right at me. They started to walk around me, and it was probably a 30 yards shot when I pulled the trigger on the 12 pointer and dropped it with one shot right through the bottom of the chest. I knew it was a nice sized deer when I shot it, but I didn’t realize that it was a 12 when I killed it.

The beam on it isn’t real big, but it had some pretty tall times to it. I’m not having the entire head mounted, but I will put the antlers of the 12 pointer on the wall and will probably put the antlers from the 8 pointer up too because it had been my nicest deer for about 3 hours until I got the 12. I was so tickled to just get one deer during the season, but to get four, I felt spoiled. And on top of that, to get two personal bests on the same day was incredible.

This picture isn’t the best as it was taken with a camera phone, but its not too bad.
