O.K time to be a very proud father. This afternoon my oldest son Cole(Kid Hale)harvested his first whitetail deer.We hunt a small area of timber that gets lots of deer travel. The owner of this land does not allow any buck harvest so it’s all doe’s for us.Guess what happens? Were not in the woods 10 minutes and 2 small bucks come within 25 yards of both Cole and I and never knew we were there until I spooked them.We got to watch these 2 bucks in nature for about 15 minutes.Cole was set up about 100 feet from me and we kept looking back and forth between each other and smiling. We finally got a few doe to come into range and I was just going crazy watching Cole and seeing how he was reacting to these deer.I’m sure I was way more nervous than Cole.Anyway he picked out his deer and pulled the trigger.I knew it was a tough shot and when he pulled the trigger my heart was really going.Back to the shot.As soon as the gun barked down the deer goes and never did move.He dropped her as she walked.I was and still am in 7th/heaven.We let her lay for about 15 minutes and then we made that walk to her.I knew she was dead and as we walked as a father/son team I was bursting with pride.Just a awesome moment to spend with a son.We stepped off the shot at 52 yards. He put the slug through both lungs.
Here Cole is with his first deer harvest.
