O.K time to be a very proud father. This afternoon my oldest son Cole(Kid Hale)harvested his first whitetail deer.We hunt a small area of timber that gets lots of deer travel. The owner of this land does not allow any buck harvest so it’s all doe’s for us.Guess what happens? Were not in the woods 10 minutes and 2 small bucks come within 25 yards of both Cole and I and never knew we were there until I spooked them.We got to watch these 2 bucks in nature for about 15 minutes.Cole was set up about 100 feet from me and we kept looking back and forth between each other and smiling. We finally got a few doe to come into range and I was just going crazy watching Cole and seeing how he was reacting to these deer.I’m sure I was way more nervous than Cole.Anyway he picked out his deer and pulled the trigger.I knew it was a tough shot and when he pulled the trigger my heart was really going.Back to the shot.As soon as the gun barked down the deer goes and never did move.He dropped her as she walked.I was and still am in 7th/heaven.We let her lay for about 15 minutes and then we made that walk to her.I knew she was dead and as we walked as a father/son team I was bursting with pride.Just a awesome moment to spend with a son.We stepped off the shot at 52 yards. He put the slug through both lungs.

Here Cole is with his first deer harvest.

Congrats! The first deer no matter whether buck or doe, big or small, is a great thing. I’m sure that Cade will remember this forever, just like almost all if not every one of us remember our first deer. I’ve realized in my 6 years of deer hunting that after you get the first one, it seems to get a lot easier and a lot more fun.

Again Cade, congrats on a fine looking deer and best of luck to you on taking your next deer.

Way to go Cole!!!!!!!!!! And you too dad. (Ryan I posted the pics under your thread on Iowa outdoors for you).

I am sure it was an awesome moment. Ryan ..He will never forget That moment. I still remember my first deer while hunting with my dad. I remember the deatils of that one hunt as if it were yesterday. I still remember staring at the bead of that old 12 gauge and even remember the site picture as I let the gun go off. I have been hunting deer since (23 years now) and have a couple on the wall but I can not remember the details of any other hunt nearly as well as I can that first deer. Way to go. Ryan I bet you will remember this hunt just as well. Another first for Cole. What a year it has been. Congrats once again.
