If you are thinking about what I believe is real challenging way to hunt deer (with a pistol) email me. I have loads a lot of experience over the last 10 years with 44 mag, 41 mag, 357 mag and 10mm in taking deer. [email protected]

I have also been using a .44 mag the last couple years. But I am now thinking of going up to the .460 mag. Do you know anything about this pistol?tex22Posts: 11December 8, 2005 at 10:22 pm #402426Joe

If you need to follow up with a second shot the real big guns are hard to get back on. Even the 44 mag I load down well beyond max. I have almost always hit the deer with all follow up shots if it runs after I shoot it.

The first I shot free hand and hit him a little high and broke his back, so he dropped instantly. The second was shot right in the boiler room and ran probably 40 yards. But I use a red dot scope, so I probably wouldn’t shoot beyond 100 yards anyway. With a rest 75 yards is all I feel comfortable with anyways.
I was talking to a kid at Cabelas about the .460 and he was telling me at the muzzle you have about 2300fps and at 100 yards it was 1500 fps, which I don’t know if he knows what he was talking about or not, so I threw the question in your direction. I hunt in a shotgun zone and the top of the line slugs are only 1900fps and they cost 2.50-3.00 dollars per round So if I can get a better round for a cheaper price I will spend the $1000. I guess just any insight you have with this gun I would love to hear. Thanks

Do you ever get to the northern suburbs for your conceal and carry classes? Or can you suggest a good place to go.tex22Posts: 11December 13, 2005 at 5:29 am #403371The two deer I have shot with the .44mag were both between 50 and 60 yards.
