Iowa gun opener

Well this weekend is the opener for our gun seasone.It should be a good one with the snow we have,our group has about 1,ooo acres to hunt im pumped.Im truely a bowhunter by heart,but I have had a real bad seasone with stolen stands,loggers,and trespassers,etc… .So imready to pund some whitetails last year our group shot 6 bucks over 130″,and a pile of does.I will let you guys know at the end of the weekend how we did.I hope everyone has a SAFE weekend hunting and fishing and good luck to all.

Im going sunday for the opener. Lots of does and a few real nice bucks, can hardly wait. Theres a creek bottom there with 70′ bluffs on both sides and the bucks chase the does down the creek bottom between them. Im going to pull up a log, sit there and just watch, should be interisting with the forcast of little wind and fresh snow. Im bringing my binocs so if the deer aren’t moving much i can watch the beavers and coyotes, im sure the creeks still open.

We hit some state stuff early in the weekend, and then move to the private ground as the deer get pushed.

MN should take Iowa’s lead with timing for deer season. Move it later, out of the rut. We see way more decent deer in Iowa, then we ever do in MN. And we have a 130 or bigger policy on bucks, and then mature does. Its just getting harder and harder to convince the wife that $350 is a good investment to hunt a mile from where we hunt in MN.

I saw a real monster last 2 times out . If he gets that close to me Saturday I will have a good shot at him.You have till about 2-3 hrs on Saturday before the big ones head for their sancuaries. After that you gotta get lucky.

Aquick report our group pounded some bucks we have 9 bucks only one tag left headin out now.I shot a 145inch10 point ,and a 130inc 8 .We are taking pics of the deer today.

Allamakee county has been good for bucks for along time, the state record, on the hoof whitetail weighted 440 pounds, and was taken back in the 60’s i think but its the heaviest on the hoof whitetail ever shot in iowa. You southern minnesota guys ought to be seeing alot of nicer bucks that border allamakee. Its only the border and the deer don’t know that.

Well i got the tape on my 10 point buck today 25inch main beams ya baby he grossed at 153inches will net around 146 when he is dried the 8 went 131 not asa big as i thought but still a dandy buck.When i get my pics i will have them scaned as soon as i get them.We ended up with 9 bucks and 6 does.it was a good year .

I finally got the pics of Lntony’s deer harvest. As you will see, Tony’s hunting party did an awesome job harvesting some nice Iowa whitetails. Great job guys
