My Browning Yukon bow hasn’t left my closet in two years because of too much effort spent chasing ducks. I spent yesterday morning in my duck boat thinking about deer hunting and have decided that I need to get back into the bow game. I would like to know what people’s thoughts are on the new bow technologies. I would like to get a nice bow (Bowtech, Mathews, or Hoyt) What are to pro’s and con’s I need to consider these days?

I am biased towards Matthews, simply because mine has yet to let me down. It is very reliable, fast & quiet and that is all I ask. The looked at the switchback the other day, it is slightly heavier then the one I have. But, the guys shooting them really like them.
I have heard good things about Bow Tech also.

November 30, 2005 at 7:49 pm #12710My advice, would be use the bow sitting in your closeet and try it next year. Make sure that you want to dedicate your time and $ to the sport. After next year if you feel you want to dedicate yourself and your $ , then go ahead and buy one of the new bows. These things are not cheap. Just my $.02.
But…. I would have to agree with Scott, Matthews has never let me down and I’m still way impressed with my Legacy I got a few years back. Quiet, Fast, Forgiving and deadly accurate ! I have never shot anything else but, I beleive just like anyhting else, it is a preference thing! You need to go out and shoot them all and let the bows tell you what you should buy! Again just my $.02

November 30, 2005 at 7:51 pm #12711I’m in the same boat as you jholden. I’m going to look at Matthews in the next few days. The local archery shop has them $100 off until Dec. 10th. I plan on shooting as many different bows as possible. The only problem for me is, not many shops have good selections of left-handed bows.
I used to shoot a lot. Now I’m finding myself looking for new Deer hunting adventures. Bow hunting is next.
Scott, what were the Switchbacks going for up by you?

BesoxPosts: 590November 30, 2005 at 7:52 pm #12712I am also very interested in a new Bow. Matthews was my first choice, but I am wondering if the extra $$’s are worth it? What do you get in a Matthews that a PSE or Bow Tech cannot give you?

November 30, 2005 at 8:10 pm #12716I can’t speak to the differences now between bows, but when I bought my first Matthews the differnce was huge. I know all companies have come a long way, I like to thing that Matthews continue to get better and stay ahead of the competition.

That’s awesome. I was once told by a fellow lefty, that left-handed people sit in the right hand of God.
The shop offering the $100.00 disc. was La Crosse Archery in La Crosse Wi.

November 30, 2005 at 9:06 pm #12724I appreciate all of the advice thus far. I leased 280 acres of Potlatch land for rifle and muzzleloading this past year and just want to be able to utilize it more next season. I had been leaning towards Bowtech since my brother had good luck with his this season. Does anyone know more about these bows vs Hoyt, Mathews? My Yukon has killed a couple bucks in it’s day, but it is in need of either a new home or retirement.

I’m also a lefty also. I’m a right handed person with a left dominant eye…. and that adds up to learning how to shoot left handed. But it didn’t take long to get the hang of it either! Just one summer!
