I reread Robs post from above and this must be why the triple seven pre formed charges that i got have a hole that runs through the middle of it to keep it from holding any compression behind the powder charge. Another question on the weight of my bullets, i thought the box said they were 500 grains but everyone else above say thiers are 250 grains, ya i threw the box away that had this little piece of paper that told thier weight. They must be 250 grains. Any help? Is 500 grains too much for a 50 caliber hollow point?

i’m in !!! i picked up a thompson omega last night, last one at gander mountain in st. cloud. i got the 245 grain powerbelts and the triple 7 50 gram pellets. i also picked up the reloader pictured in posts above. thats why i love this site, you get honest opinions, and good debates, which make it alot easier for a guy who’s never shot or owned a muzzleloader before, to go into a store and know a little bit about what hes after. thanks guys.

If the bullets are accually 500 grains,it will be like throwing a canon ball at them.It will probably be ok for short distances but will fall fast.I shoot the 250 grain Shock Wave and they are a awesome bullet.Power Belt bullets are also good and load easy.

In my opinion the best ML for the money is the CVA Optima. I shoot 100 grains 777. Powerbelt HP 295 grains, accurate to 100+ yards. Smoke many deer during MN and Ia seasons. I knocked the site off mine during the season, called CVA, they overnighted me one at N/C. That is customer service, even on a $200 gun.

I started sighting mine in last night. It shot to the left out of the box, up and down is right on. It took me forever to try to figure out which way to adjust the rear site I don’t know why it was such a hard cocept to grasp.

I am with ya on that one fishhammer, i am also shooting the CVA, i pulled it out of the box and it was five inches high at fifty and dead on at one fifty. Seems like an awful good gun for the money. Now we will see what it can do this weekend. I am shooting 100 grains of powder and 245 grain powerbelt bullets.

I am using 100 grains of Triple 7, with a 245 grain hollow point. I was really impressed with the gun. We will see how it goes this weekend.

    Go get em Ryan

When I first started shooting muzzleloader I thought bigger was better and I found some 540 grain conicals. Just imagine shooting 3 1/2″ turkey loads out of a single shot 12ga all I can say is ouch I still have the box with only two bullets missing

Nobody shoots a Knight ?? I got a Knight dics extreme last year. Wish I would have waited one more year for the Evelution , I think thats their new one . Cleaning these rifles takes a while , especially with Pyrodex. I shot up a box of them and was going to buy Triple 7 but could not find any anywhere . Had to get another box of Pyrodex. I agree more than 2 pellets is too much, most rifles cannot burn that much and alot is wasted.I have been shooting Powerbelts with mixed results. Might go to the Shockwaves , seems like they have alot of + feedback on this post. We see some nice buck during late M.L. season .

If anyone near the Rochester area finds this reloader or power handle please let me know I checked Fleet Farm & Gander today and they are both sold out.

I recommend buying a reloading kit that holds the primer, pellets & bullet. Like this. It makes reloading super fast

Also, get a Power Handle for pushing the load into the chamber. I have one of these and it’s been a great help in loading
