Slop, if it is snow preciptation they will be up moving a lot, trying to gather any food that is on the ground before the snow covers it up! Especially if it gets down to 5 degrees tonight as they are predicting, that should increase the movement. This evening should be good, there is a high up here today of 25.
If it is rain down by you, there will be less movement, especially if these winds stay stiff. But once the rain subsides, they should be out in full force. They are predicitng warmer temps this weekend I wish it was like this this weekend
You never know with them, but that is what I would bank on

Hey slop, with the wind blowing like it is it turns thier movement off because they can’t use thier sense of smell and hearing as good. Being naturally paranoid like they are they don’t move much when they can’t use thier senses. The bucks will be moving more than the does but everything will be minimal. One of the best times to hunt is right after the wind calms down from a good day or two of wind like its been. The bucks can get back to winding the does and they can use thier senses again. The people im working for now, thier son went the night right after the last wind here 3 days ago and arrowed his first buck after being on stand 2 days. It was blowing around noon, started calming down in about an hour and was under 10 mph by 3 and he arrowed his buck by 4. Take a calm day right after a good wind with a half way warm day with moist snow to hold scent and the bucks will have thier noses to the ground like bloodhounds. Ive seen them go bananas right after a good wind with a moist snow on the ground running as fast as they can and over running the does tracks, going back and finding the scent again and following the doe that was in heat. If your getting wind up there now, which i think you are be in your stand right after it calms down on a good trail that leads from the woods to thier nightly feeding and grazing area.

I saw 4 does and 1 scrubber buck this morning I am sitting a small spot of corn the farmer left for the wildlife and the deer were definatley going for food. when you have weather like this they have to move and eat.

I agree! But, as soon as the wind lets down, get in your stand. We are going on 24 hours of straight wind. Once that wind lets down they will be on the feed big time. My second favorite time to hunt is after a day or two of strong wind.
LOL, I didn’t see your post Mossydan, I just read it now, I guess we are saying the same thing pretty much
If you keep a watch on the barometric pressure, you can time the calm before the storm. This is the best time to hunt in my experience, whether the rut is on or not.

Just got back from McCoy and the deer were both up and moving and still bedded down. Most movement we seen was in near pines and in areas where the wind was not as strong. There was a decent 8 pointer, a spike, and oodles of does and fawns digging in the snow for food. Now if they stay around until Saturday morning it would be great.

I took this pic on my way home from work around 2:30 this afternoon on the side hill across from the road.
I got the spotting scope out also. He’s just a year and half 8 pointer, and he was just bedded down out of the wind for the afternoon! Temp right now is 17 degrees with a wind chill of 4 degrees. Cold enough to freeze your off!
