Light enough to count points, light enough to shoot if you ask me. I never have gone by the clock. I go by my eyes.

I can understand you waiting. Tough luck.

Don’t shooting hours have a +/- minute variance? I’m sure some of you nay-sayers will gripe and groan, but if I can POSITIVELY identify my target, I’m taking the shot, then adjust my Watch accordingly…lol..jk..joke…relax

I’m with Slop Bass on this one. And furthermore, If you CAN’T positivly identify your target, isn’t that what the Q-beam (1,000,000 candle power) is for…………?? LOL – (J/K)

Unfortunately, it is the time that you take that shot, when a game warden happens to be driving by………..

A local hunter in my area did this 15 minutes before legal shooting hours and he got busted for it!!!!

That’s one for-sure bust for the warden. To be safe better fire off another shot at shooting time to explain the dead deer.

    yea;

That was the year following an IDIOT who shot a buck with a high-powered rifle, from his truck, across hwy 61. He basically did it in front of a sheriff. He got in trouble for that one, needless to say.

That following year, I got checked by the game warden 3 different times. We were clean and all, but they caught some other guys bending the rules…….

Before that I NEVER EVER had been stopped or checked….

If you are going to break the rules (or even bend them slightly) you need to ask yourself if it is really worth it.

I’m not a rule breaker/bender by nature but I just cannot embrace the shooting hour rule for deer hunting. That’s not the way I was raised and I will never do it. I can see where it’s useful for game birds in those situations but it is of no use to me when hunting deer.

I can honestly say I have never looked at my watch for shooting hours when deer hunting. If I can see that it is FOR SURE a doe, and I am looking to take a doe, I will shoot. If it is a shooter buck, and looks appears to be what I am looking for, I will shoot.

Remember, depending on where you are at in the state you can adjust the sunrise/sunset from there. The only tickets I know of going out for this involve headlights, and that is just not right!

Additionaly seeing the deer clearly has always been the easy part. Being able to use metal sites has limited me several times. I just could not see the bead in the V to aim so I didn’t shoot. However with a scope if I can see the deer clearly I can see it even better with my scope and take a clean shot.

i forgot to mention that when the sun came up so i could see the road that i was hunting by (behind me) i saw that the dnr set up a check point on that road so it was a good thing i didnt shoot because it would have only taken them 2 minuets to see who it was.

Sled, good for you for following the law. It can be difficult at times but laws are made for safety reasons. I personally get pretty pieved at people who shoot early …it’s cheating and no different than shinning or baiting if you ask me. My son had never taken a deer until this year. He was in a great stand on a scrape line plenty early. When I went to his stand after the morning shoot I asked him if he saw anything. He said a buck chased a doe right by his stand, but it was 5 minutes early so he let it go . I was very proud of him. The next day at 7:05am the same deer came back and he was able to get his first deer . Thanks for waiting Sled.

well like a lot of guys at the top said that if its light enough to see points than its light enough to shoot what happenes if your budy is walking up behind the deer the bulet would go through and hit him thats why they have shooting hours you may be able to see the deer but whats behind the deer

I said POSITIVELY IDENTIFY MY TARGET….the given would be “AND BEYOND”.

Really????, how often do your buddies walk up on deer? just teasin’

The other thing that sort of plays here is that i’m always in a stand, so i’m shooting down at targets, into the ground….i’m not on the ground, shooting parallel to earth…
