I was hunting with three other guys today just one of them and myself stayed out all day I was not in the stand for more than 15 minuets and I had deer moving around me but is was still to dark to see them, we all saw deer today but no shooters, I am the only one in the group that has a doe permit for the first season. I could have shot a doe today but I was hoping a buck was following her, and I have all week as I am on vacation. None of us saw any bucks chasing does today. The other guy that stayed out all day saw quite a bit of bucks but no shooters, the most activity took place between 11am and 1pm. That’s it for now got to go to bed.

Hunting by Rushford we saw 4 different bucks snorting, weezing, grunting and chasing does all over the place. One of them was a shooter but I could’nt get a good line on him. We got one good “eater” buck- hope to see a bruiser I have been watching this summer later in the week. There are in incredible amount of scrapes around but not many rubs. Good luck all.

So far between the three of us in our group we have two bucks..one scoring 110s mabe 120 the other is the thickest rack I have ever seen gonna score 130s maybe more with the mass….misses my share of does which sent me to the gun range after stand this morning to find out my scope had moved considerably (sp? way tired)…shootin two feet high and foot left so took it off for now….TONS of big bucks spotted we saw probably 8 or 10 wall hangers all day but no shots besides the two we got. Will have pics tonight.

Only saw two deer today one was a spike maybe a 4 point that one of the other guys have been seeing, I could not tell what the other deer was as it was in some very thick stuff. I saw a coyote at 3:30 took a shoot and missed
The two guys in my group that like to run home for luch saw a monster buck chasing a doe in there back yard as they were pulling into the driveway and yes you guessed it there is a stand in the back yard that these two deer ran right by
I am in the woods by myself tomorrow as the rest of my group has to go back to work. Hopefully I will have something better to report tomorrow.

I personally never saw a Deer with horns. For 3 days, our party only saw 2 with horns and one of them was a 2 year old 3pt’er. I saw way too many small does.

My Mom & Dad saw a small spotted fawn one afternoon. I was told it was tiny and the spots were quite visible. All I know is, I need to find a new place to hunt.

    Bring on the Muzzleloader season.

Monday morning I was the only guy in my group out as the rest of the guys had to go back to work. I saw no deer in the morning, I sat in my stand until 10am and then decided to take a break as it was just to warm for deer to be moving. Got back out around 1PM and walked to my stand in a short sleeve T shirt to keep from sweating. Conditions Monday night were perfect it was a clear night and no wind the only problem was no one told the deer that, they did not start moving till after legal shooting light I had to wait a half hour in the stand till I was sure all the deer were gone before I got down. Tuesday morning (today) got back in the same stand at 5:30AM had a doe come in around 7:30AM but she saw me before I saw her and the stuff she was in was so thick I decided to pass on a shot. Not to long after that I had a 6 point buck come in grunting and I called him back in twice with a doe in heat bleat, I let him walk as he was just a basket rack, got down from the stand around 10am as it was starting to get warm again, heading back out around 1PM in a T shirt agian, saw no deer tonight but did spook a couple walking back to my truck. Tomorrow should be interesting to say the least the weather report is calling for 21 mph winds might be time to go look for an unpicked corn field and try a stalk.

6 point buck you say, Steve???
Could have been the same one I’ve seen the last three times in my bowhunting stand?
That boy has a death wish. First night he was 12 yards. Next morning 25 yards away. And this morning around 15 yards. At first broad side in the open then turned and looked away giving a quartered away shot! It’s doubtful he’ll make it though gun season!

A friend of mine’s brother took a nice deer near Houston, MN. It was all white, but I don’t think it was an albino. I saw pictures and the eyes are brown instead of red. Very cool deer, I think it was a 4 pointer. I will try to get some pics up.

Went out Tuesday night with my 4 year old. We saw a bunch of does, he ate all the food and then fell asleep. About a half hour later a small 8 point was in range for 10 minutes but I couldn’t bring myself to A: Shoot a small buck this early in the season or B: Scare the crap out of my son while he was sleeping. I had to wake him up at 5:45 so we could get down. His response was “Dad, We need to go to a better spot next time”

We saw an all white doe on Sunday by where we hunt. I don’t think that one was albino either. What is the law in MN about shooting white deer.

With all the wind we had today I decided to sleep in this morning, sitting in a tree stand with 45mph winds is not my idea of a good time. I decided to go and walk a wildlife management area got there around 9am and walked around till noon did not see one deer I did not even kick up a pheasant.
Got back out to my one of my stands around 2PM the wind was suppose to lay down around 4PM but in never did. This particular stand that I sat in tonight is a permanent stand one of four that is very comfortable, the best way to describe them is they are like a small deck, they have build in ladders to climb in and a railing all around them. The one that I sat in tonight was the first time I had sat in it this year. This is a huge tree that this stand leans against and after I climbed in I realized that the tree was a dead tree, needless to say this made me very uncomfortable sitting in a tree that was dead with 45mph winds. After about a half hour I decided to get out and move to a new spot. I walked out of the woods and decided to sit on the edge of the woods in a grassy spot, there was even a small dip in the ground that I sat in, kind of like a lazy boy. This seemed like a good spot as I have often seen deer in this field after getting out of my stand and walking back to my truck. Well it was only a little after 3PM and the sun was shinning right in my face and I did not think I would see anything until last light so I thought I would lay down and take it easy for a bit, I used my back pack as a pillow and I had the brim my hat over my face to keep the sun out of my eyes but I could still see straight ahead out over the field. I was so comfortable there that I was lucky I did not fall asleep, I had been there for only 20 min or so when here comes two does b-lining across the field straight at me and here I am laying down with my hat over my face and my gun in my lap, I sat up shouldered my gun took aim and got off two shots as they flew into the woods on my right, never touched them and did not see anything for the rest of the evening. and so the adventure continues.

I climbed into my stand this morning at 5:15AM and sat until 9:30AM did not see one deer. I decided to go check out a picked bean field that one of the neighbors had seen two bucks chasing does Wednesday evening and one of them was a real bruiser!!! I wanted to find a spot to set up my ground blind on the edge of the woods. This woods is has a bean field on the front side and the back side, the bucks had been seen on the front side of the woods. I walked the back side of the woods toward the neighbor’s property and saw a buck chasing a doe, I thought I had spooked them but later I realized they never knew I was there. They continued to run through the woods and out to the bean field on the front side, and I thought to myself well I will not see them again so I continued to make my way through the woods to the same bean field the deer ran to. Well when I got to the edge of the woods you guessed it here came the same two deer running my way, the six point buck was in hot pursuit and only had one thing on his mind. This time (compared to the night before) I took a little more time with my aim and popped the doe right in the boiler room, she dropped right there in her tracks. After I field dressed the dear I decided to set up my ground blind in the same spot that I had just shot this doe from as that is where the neighbor had seen the bucks chasing the does the night before. I got back to my blind around 2PM and got set up and things started heating up around 5PM. First a doe came out followed by another doe then a basket rack six point buck showed up and started chasing the does around the field, it was not to much longer and two more does showed up being chased by another basket rack buck. I had them all within 20 yards of me at different times and could have very easily dropped any one of them but I already had my doe and these bucks were not what I am looking for. Unfortunately the big boy never showed up but I have one more night and well you never know and needless to say I left my ground blind right there for tomorrow nights hunt.

I sat on a fence line this morning, climbed into my stand at 6AM and sat until 9:30AM did not see any deer. One of the guys in our group sat in one of the stands in his back yard and shot a 5 point buck around 8AM. This is one of the same two guys that went home for lunch on Sunday and saw a BIG BOY chasseing a doe in there back yard. I should mention that he is 19 years old and I believe this is only his second deer, the good news is that I have him and his Dad talked into buying the All Season License next year and practicing selective harvest and Joining Bluffland Whitetails Association !

I did not get back out for the afternoon hunt until about 2PM as it was way to warm out for the deer to be moving or so I thought. As I was driving down the road next to the field that I have my ground blind set up in I saw 5 deer running in the field along the edge of the woods and right past my ground blind but they were moving at mock one speed. I could not tell if any of them was a buck as I was too far off but I suspected that one of them was and that is why they were on the move. I got into my blind and was all set up at 2:30PM, nothing was moving until 5PM a couple of does walked out to the field and it was not to long before some more does showed up followed by one of the same small bucks from the night before. All together I had eight does in the field with the one buck trying to decide which one he could have his way with. After I got back to my truck I met up with the Dad of the kid who shot the 5 pointer that morning, he said that he saw that group of five deer running around in another field as he was on his way to his stand and one of them was a real piggy of buck. Just goes to show that even on warm days you can not be in your stand too early during the rut. Who knows if I had been in my blind when those deer ran by if I would have been able to stop them or not, but I would have liked to have the chance to try. Even though I did not get to see the big boy it was pretty cool to see all those deer two nights in a row, this is a new spot for me and it looks like it will be a hot spot for a long time to come. I have a feeling that this spot is where my next wall mounter will come from if not this year maybe next year! Hopefully the big boy will make it through the doe season and I will have a chance at him during the muzzle loader season.
