Just thought I would take a little time give an update on the rut. I hunt near St. Cloud and Near Park Rapids. I have been out in the woods pretty much every night over the last week and a half with not much to report..very little buck activity.
Last night just before dark I had a nice 110-120 inch 8 pointer come through (8 yards) working a trail pretty hard, head down. I had a perfect set up on him with the wind, but he was not the one I am looking for. The good news is, when they start, they usually keep coming. This is the day I wait for every year. From now until the gun season is my favorite time of the year.
I have yet to find good scrapes in the woods, just the typical field edge scrapes. I sure wish our gun season started about Nov 20th I have yet to see a buck on a doe with any interest. So, things are getting close. I am guessing this will be a great weekend up North. I hunted up there on Wednesday evening and didn’t see a deer…which usually happens before the bucks start running. Don’t forget your grunt call, this is the time to grunt um in
