Mock scrapes are working awesome. This is the first year I have made them, and the bucks have totally taken it over. Everytime I go out there it has been worked over. I have some good trail cam pics, just have no idea how to post them.

Are you pics digital if so here is how to post them…….

Crop and size your pic and save it in your computer as a jpeg remember 450 pixels on it’s largest side.

The name of the file can not contain any spaces or characters like @ # * .

Once saved to your computer go in and post a message in the forum of your choice.

After your post is typed in leave the box checked that says “I want to preview my post and/or attach a file”

Then there will be a box marked “browse” click this and it will take you to “your computer”

Select the picture you want to post by clicking on it, this will put the picture in the browse box…

Click continue and your all done….

If you have anymore questions feel free to give me a shout.

I have seen some scrapes, mostly on field edge’s and a few in the woods. For me and some of my buddies, deer movement has been slow as of late with the high temps combined with the full moon. I’ve tried tickling the horns the last 2 trips to the stand with no response’s. If the temps stay low the rest of the week and into the weekend, I might get out the decoy Sat. or Sun. Good luck everyone, this should be a good week to tag one.

I took my son out for his first deer hunt…he’s 8.
Dad had the ’06 & he carried his BB gun in case I needed backup. There was a special early doe season in about 5 zones we were in Rush City near the Croix on public land. I thought it would be perfect for his first time with the mild weather.

Saturday we were in a blind 7 hours during prime morning and evening…nothing. We went grouse hunting during the afternoon north and saw nothing. There was plenty of shooting as far as I could hear so there must have been some doe movement.

We spent Sunday afternoon grouse hunting and plinking stumps …saw nothing. We hit the woods near a heavily used trail with plenty of small tracks for the evening hunt…nothing except while we were out a buck shredded a tiny sapling and kicked dirt all over the trail just out of sight from us! Too bad he couldn’t have seen that.

The one rub/scrape was the only one I saw walking several miles in Sandstone and Mille Lacs WMA while hunting the non existant grouse! I think it’s just going to start to heat up with the cold snap coming on. I have seen plenty of deer moving this week in the east metro with crops starting to come out this week.

It was sure a nice weekend to be in the woods except for all the dang skeeters. We saw 100+ trumpeter swans and geese heard an owl, saw a fresh scrape and plenty of turds so he had fun.

    Later,

    Ferny.

last night was beautiful out! couldn’t ask for a better night

strange thing happened again last night, got busted somehow

yup I am sad, pissed off and confused!!!

I didn’t even see this deer, it was out on the same spot I got busted last time… blew at me again… but then not more then 15 min later I see 6 does coming at me from the same direction?? WTF!!!!

how can one deer take off and 6 not have a problem??

the 2 does and what turned out to be 4 fawns made there way up to me and feed for 1 hr under me… I barked like a dog at them made an owl sound, turkey nothing would work to get them to leave finally at 8pm I said enough!!!!! I just got down, it was dark enough where they just ran 30 yds and stop and continued to feed… down wind!! what gives?? how can I get busted by this one deer that I haven’t seen yet? and not others?

my only thought is its super buck

couldn’t lift the eyes at 5am so I didn’t get out

I was out Monday eve. Got on stand about 4 and sat until 6:30. I rattled once I got set up and had a small 4 come busting in.He hung out for about 3 minutes and slowly faded into the brush.I grunted and he came right back and pranced below me for another minute or so and crept back into the brush. At 5:15 I grunted 2 times and rattled for about 30 seconds. At 5:30 I heard movement behind me which was hard as heck with all the wind that was blowing.I slowly turned around and there he was…..the biggest…….baddest……most careful walking…..Squirrel I ever saw. After he was gone I settled back in and tried to hear and see what was going on around me.The wind was strong and the woods were loud.I caught some movement out to the frt behind some scrub bushes. As I was focused on that I caught movement out of the corner of my eye.I looked down and here was a nice 6 coming in.Tail up and walking slow.He went over to a tree about 15 yrds away and worked that bad boy over HARD. As I was watching this I saw 2 does coming out of the bush in frt of me. They were on RED ALERT with all the wind.I sat and watched them come in to about 10 yards and decided to shoot the big one.I drew back and was setting the pin on her when she bolted and ran over to the 6 ptr. I was adjusting when I noticed she was looking back nervously.I glanced in that direction, there he was a nice 10 that I have seen on trail cam pics a few times now.I let down and got ready to make a move on the big boy. Bieng the wise one he is he stayed behind brush and trees the whole way past me.never once stepping into a shooting lane.I was shaking like a high school dropout taking a reading test.I shifetd my sights back to the doe but alas she had moved off to about 35 yrds and in some thicker stuff.Darn no shots tonight I said to myself but just seeing the big boy in my area has me pumped.I will be out this weekend trying to lure him in for a shot.Man I love this bowhunting stuff!!!!

With my last fishing tournament out of the way I finally went out and bought my tags for this year. Monday morning my brother showed up and said that he tried to go out after working nights on Sunday. When he arrived it was already light out and there was 4 does standing in the corner of a unpicked corn field. They spooked and he decided to take off insted of pushing them more.

So Wednesday morning we headed out to the same place just earlier then he did on monday. We get settled in the corner behind a big tree and some small bushes. Just as the sun is comming up the wind changed directions and increased by about 10 mph. The wind was blowing right to were the deer would be comming from. So we decided to move and started walking the edge of the corn field. We go about 100 yards and we see 3 big does and 5 little deer out in the green field and they are working our way. We snuck 3 rows into the corn and got down. The deer were comming kind of fast. We talked it over and we were both going to try and fill our doe tags. The plan was we would both pick out our doe and draw our bows and shoot on the count of 3. So I get my bow back and so does my brother, I ask him which one he was aiming at to make sure we did not shoot the same one. We both have our deer at about 30 yards and I asked if he was ready and he said yes. So I said 1 and he shoots!!! So I let my arrow go as soon as I hear his bow go off. I hear him say that he missed and I watched my arrow go about 3.5″ below the doe I was aiming at. The ran out about 30 yards more and were looking around. Then the worked the other way and disappered. I was so mad and could not figure out how that happend. Until we found out that the deer were really at 35 yards and we both shot for 30.

I was happy that I saw deer the first day out and the first time I have hunted this small farm. After loosing the great spot that I used to hunt, we had to find avalible land that is not as good. Oh Well it is still fun!!!

I am going out tomorrow and we are hopping those does will do the same thing that they have done twice this week.

This past thursday morning I set off to sit in my stand east of Prescott Wi. I was on stand well before morning light, and I sat for a half hour after shooting time not seeing anything. I decided to get the Quaker Boy Bleat-N-Heat can out of my pocket and give it a try. I turned the can over 5 times, and less than a minute later…here he comes. I hear the movement first in the rustling leaves to my right, the nine pointer then comes into view while ducking under a downed log. He comes down the trail right to left, and offers a 19 yard broadside shot. He did not stand a chance, fresh venison. I found it amazing how this deer reacted to the call, I have never experienced this before. Does anyone else have any success stories while using their “can” call?

Thursday night I was sitting in a new stand I put up the weekend before. I’m located in a big red oak on the edge of a nasty bedding area. My intent with this stand is to catch bucks checking the bedding area come time when they start searching for hot does. I thought maybe I could catch a doe heading by me on the way to the corn field further up the ravine. I had sat in my stand not seeing anthing but a family of fox squirrels keeping entertained in my tree. The young one are a blast to watch… They know I’m not part of the tree, But what???
Anyway about an 15 minutes before sunset, I decided to give the can a shot. I flipped it a couple of times and let it do it’s magic. It was only a few minutes I noticed a deer wander out of the edge of the woods and head my direction along the overgrown fence line. I noticed when the deer was within 70 yards it was a decent size buck… I could see he had four points on one side but after he walked back in the edge of the woods and appeared 10 yards from my tree I could see the other side was either broke off or a wierd mess. He appeared to be a two and half year old. Way to early for me to think about shooting. One thing was obviuos as he worked his way down to the ole farm road just below…. he was lookin for the doe. Things are startin to pick up now!
Nice job on the 9 pointer. I love deer pixs… did you get any to show the boys here!

    Friday 10/21:
Hunted creek bottom, small funnel area. Saw one 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 year old 7 point buck. Nice bodied deer, 4 x 3 rack, messed up in velvet it looked like. Deer came in behind me, made a scrape, then hung around for about 15 minutes or so. All within the first 45 minutes of daylight.

    Saturday 10/22:
Hunted ridge above river. Jumped one deer standing in corn field walking in. Then had one doe, two fawns, one button buck, 4 point buck and 6 point buck come by, all before 9:45 am. No action this evening while on stand.
