Was out in my stand most of the weekend…Had my first opportunity at a nice buck saturday afternoon. I’m hunting a field edge. I have 180 degrees in front of me to shoot, and i cleared a small shooting lane behind me as well. Around 6:30 a shooter 8pt steps out in the field about 70 yards to my left. Obviously out of range, but I sat and watched him, hoping he would come my way. He stood out there and ate for about 5 minutes and headed back into the woods. I gave a few soft grunt calls and sat back down. 15 minutes later I heard something coming my way from behind me. It was that buck!! He had heard my call and was coming in from behind to check me out. Only problem was that I couldn’t see him. I knew he was going to cross my shooting lane, so I drew back and waited. Sure enough, he came in, but he was at the very high end of my shooting lane. There were a few leaves and twigs in my way, so not 100% sure my arrow would clear, I let him walk . It’s early in the season and I didn’t want to risk a bad shot..even at 15 yards. I’m going to head up after work and clear my lane a little better, and hopefully he will be back
