November 9, 2005 at 8:57 pm #11697Sorry I was busy. Thx for posting that Slop. It was a bow kill. Got him on the evening of the 6th. All the bucks I had been seeing the week previous up to that night were chasing hard, including this guy. I think I saw this guy about 4 days earlier but am not positive due to some brush blocking my view. Seeing him made it easy to pass on a couple 125″ish bucks the nights leading up to the 6th.
It was a heart pounding ordeal. He went by out of range once chasing. Could not change his course with anything. Luckily more does came through by me making him come back. Two more times he went through but never offered a shot. I thought he was leaving the last time but yet another couple does came in and drew him back and gave me a 10-15 yard poke. I spined him by accident and it dropped him of course and I followed up with another real quick which got his heart.
Field dressed he weighed 223 pounds. And you are correct on his face, it is thick and big. I am guessing he was a bad dude. Note in the pic. that on his right side, his G3 and G4 are both broke off some. His main beams on each side are also missing an inch or two. Despite all this, the rough gross is 150ish.November 9, 2005 at 8:57 pm #395471Sorry I was busy. Thx for posting that Slop. It was a bow kill. Got him on the evening of the 6th. November 10, 2005 at 2:06 pm #11729Joel, took his buck near the cities. He only had 45 minutes to hunt that evening but it was worth it. He rattled him in and then grunted him within shooting range, I believe he shot it on Tuesday November 1st.

November 11, 2005 at 10:28 pm #11834Shot this first one on the Sunday of opening bow weekend. 20 Yard shot, double lung. It would have been a nice deer in a year or two, but I shot it in an area near home that gets pounded with gun hunters and very few make it through the season. The second pic is from an 8-pointer I shot on Tuesday morning near Orr, MN. The rut really did not seem to be picking up in our area (talking to a lot of other groups also) until Monday/Tuesday. I popped this one with about 10-minutes to go before packing up camp and heading for home . Now, I just need to start searching for some bigger bucks to get under the belt.
