I believe that is the same recipe my uncle uses when his dog tangles with skunks. If it can eliminate that odor, I would think human odor would be a piece of cake!

my field and stream last month, had a recipe which entailed, picking up leaves, sticks, moss and any other objects, such as acorns, boiling them in water for a couple hours and bottling. i don’t think this eliminates any scent, but acts to cover human odor with forest floor. my wife won’t let me use her big pot !!! DARN !!! come to think of it, she won’t let me use the stove…

October 15, 2005 at 3:33 am #10656Heres a receipe that i used one year and it sticks to everthing and for quit awhile too, even after your equipment has gotten wet. I got some acorns and peeled the outer shell and put them in a blender with water to make a liquid mash and puereed them, you know what i mean and haven’t got time too look it up on my blender. After the blender did its thing i poured the mix through a towel and into a bowl. I strained it a couple of times through a towel and then bottled it in an old empty scent cover spray bottle. I went hunting and sprayed it on everything. While doing what i was doing all day i almost always smelled the acorns. After a few applications on my equipment and clothes i could see it was building up and after my bow had gotten wet a couple of times it was still on my bow and the arrows. I was impressed on how this stuff stuck to things. I ran out that hunting season and never made anymore but it does work. If i make anymore i’ll use other things of fall foliage, sumac, wild grapes etc with some salt to keep it from souring then. One last reminder, don’t use your home blender, it ruins it, maybe thats why they said to boil the mix first to soften the things up. If your going to do this go to the thrift shop and buy a cheap used blender because if you don’t boil the mix first the blades won’t be any good at all after making anything out of the acorns, the scent cover up does work pretty nice too!

October 24, 2005 at 3:31 pm #10946Hey G, leave the cooking to me! And we’ll use my stove.

Just to clarify your recipe, is it 2 quart bottles which are 32ozs. or 2-16oz 1 pint each equaling 1 quart? Your directions could be confusing to a lesser mind.October 24, 2005 at 3:31 pm #391596Hey G, leave the cooking to me! And we’ll use my stove.

I had a decent 8 pointer come through early thursday morning. I zinged an arrow off a branch I didn’t see in the low light.
Oh well, hopefully next year!

October 26, 2005 at 1:30 pm #11026hooks, i think next year, i’m bringing a chainsaw !!! just kidding. it definitely makes a guy appreciate a spot where you can cut lanes and do a little scouting prior. putting your stand up in the dark, and then seeing what you put yourself up against at daylight, can be alittle discouraging to say the least. anything outside about 14 yards, i was shooting through holes in the branches, and lets face it, when a buck comes through, you don’t exactly “see” the branches !!!

October 27, 2005 at 5:30 am #11078Hooks, not really sure. I used a total of 32oz peroxide. I am not the creator of this recipe, not smart enough here. Hope it works for you. Tomorrow will be my first time using it. I had to use up the rest of my commercial stuff so I had enough bottles for an entire gallon. I should note though that when I unscrewed the pump caps off the commercial bottles to refill them with “the recipe” they all had the same residue under the caps that “the recipe” has. And they were four different brands.
