Had some perimeter scrapes already present on the south side of our field…just about every overhanging tree? Don’t remember these border scrapes showing up this early. Anybody else been seeing these?

Have also heard of people seeing lots of scrapes on field edges and a couple in the woods. I would think it would be to early.

I saw a few in ND last weekend on field edges and transition areas. Nothing to heavy, but definitly scrapes.

I agree seems a little early

Research states that these are almost always created by the younger bucks. Yet, I still need to put up one of my trail cameras to see.

I was watching 2 small bucks making scrapes last friday morning. I thought they might have been digging for acorns but small scrapes is what they were doing.

    early winter coming?????

on another note got my mount back a couple days ago.

it was about 430 and my 3 day on stand without seeing a thing I was getting so mad and kept thinking with all the corn and soybeans still in I will never see a deer I brought out the rattle bag and gave it a few shakes and sat and waited. all the sudden I see a small 6 come running down the trail from my right and all I could think was great someone is walking through my land… scaring up deer( again) the land is close to a public park and people walk down the river and alway end up coming out their. but to my dismay I see this guy coming head down coming at me.

I pulled back and he was still coming, then he stops out at 40yds, turns right and starts walking toward the corn field. drop a low grunt and he froze, looked back and turned around to come towards me again. now I had to wait for a good time to pull back again He goes behing a tree I pull back and he starts to go from my right to left away again well we played this game 2 more times and he finally gave me a broadside shot at 30yds, he went 50yds and dropped

ended up pulling back and drawing down 4 time before I got my shot

    Great buck congrats.
Back to the scrapes. I have put out mock scrapes all year long, bucks will check them any time of the year same with licking branches. It is a great tactic for keeping a mature buck in your hunting area. Becuase once he finds the mock scrape he will keep checking it to find out who had the balls to mark up his territory. You could stick a trail cam up by the mock scrape but more often then not a mature buck will circle downwind of the mock and just scent check it and not remark the scrape(not always though). Its kind of fun to do to, I recomend trying it. You can buy a mock scrape kit from HS, you get a spray bottle of forehead scent, dominant buck urine, mock scrape dirt that is water proof and some rubber gloves with the kit. The water proof dirt, you pour a little bit into the scrape and make a bowl out of it with your fingers and then pour the dominant buck urine into the bowl, since the dirt is water proof it will stay there for a few weeks or until a buck comes in and remarks it. Try it.

hey that waterproof dirt sound like it might be the ticket to it all, I usually use some latex gloves, branch, dominate buck urine, and forhead spray.

but I always am freshening up my scrapes at least once a week.

was out this morning and I could hear them moving early before sun up, had 2 does and a couple fawns run under me but nothing from 645 to 9am

stupid weather man is talking 80’s again
