My buck from this weekend

This weekend I had two exciting hunts. Saterday I had deer around me from five until dark. Including one big Eight pointer. The eightpointer, appearing to be around 16 inches wide and sporting good tine lenght and mass would usually be a prime choice for taking. But I opted to let him pass. For the past month I had been seeing a massive ten point in this same field. So the night passed and I started doing some thinking about what I had done. And realized through the help of convicing friends, that I should have taken that big eight. So sunday I head back up the hill at 4:30….. in the rain. Just like the night before I had deer out in the field around me steady. At one point I had two scrub bucks and a small ten point infront of me. Then at about 6:30 the big eight returned. this time I decided I would take him. It really is amazing how much more calm I was sat when i let him pass. This time I was loosing feeling in my fingers. Taking him over five minutes to work his way down to me I had plenty of time to get my shakes out. In the end I put a good shot on him and got the buck. He is 16 inches wide, With 9 inch g2s.

    Kevin

I guess I’m going to have to go duck hunting a lot this year.

I am very happy with it. It’s always a plus when you find it and it’d bigger than what you thought it would be. It has an excellent coat on it.

Beauty of a buck! I’m glad that it worked out getting a second chance at him. I have done the same in the past, only not getting that second chance the next night. Wondering the whole time after you let him walk “What was I thinking” .

Did you green score the buck? I would guess that he would gross somewhere around 115-123????? Hard to tell from the pic! Either way, nice job!

    Very nice indeed!!

So times when I see a shooter come in I tell myself no big deal, let him pass the whole time knowingly he’s going down if it comes in range.

Sometimes it works sometimes not, but the best feeling is sitting down after you shot em and are so excited you feel like you going to fall out of the stand!

    once again great buck

That is the exact reason I’m so obsessed about this sport. Except for that I do not even have to shoot a buck, to get this feeling. Just having a close encounter with a brusier can make me turn around after the encounter and hug a tree, in fear of falling out. Laugh as you may, but yes occasionally “I’m a tree huggger “. I have hugged a few trees in my short 8 year career. I gaurantee you there is no better feeling than having this fever. I’m just lucky to get the fever after the encounter and not during or before. Man I love this sport.

Thanks for revving me up even ore Bucky
