Here is a couple pictures from opening weekend. My brother-in-law Todd Ritter scored on a dandy 8 pointer opening day. We saw lots of bucks but Todd was the only one to score. This was his first Bow Kill..not a bad start!

Here is the story behind the deer. This was shot up at my cabin near Park Rapids. The buck came in about 6:45 PM and was feeding on one of our Clover food plots. The Mathews Q2 did its job real well with a perfectly placed shot.
We saw a total of 9 different bucks between the two of us for the weekend. Two would have been shooters. Todd got his, my arrow hit a BIG branch and shattered First time for everything!!

September 19, 2005 at 3:05 pm #9854Great looking buck! I guess missing is part of bowhunting. The bad thing is you never forget! The good thing is there is still an entire season for another shot

September 19, 2005 at 3:54 pm #9858I was suprised. None of us wore head nets, they did come out before dark but not like a typical warm opener where you think they are going to carry you away. The bugs are really bad around my home though. I won’t be hunting there for a month or so!

September 20, 2005 at 12:01 am #9889I’ll bet the reason why the openers two weeks ahead of us tony is because it gets colder earlier up in the north woods befor it does here plus the lights dropping faster than down here too. Its time to hunt deer.

September 20, 2005 at 3:48 am #9894Thought I would jump in with a little note.. It’s 10:55 pm and my future father-in-law is out tracking a 150+ down near Mazeppa. I’m stuck in Burnsville and is killing me that cant be there…He was in the stand that I set up yesterday. I was walking out yesteday morning and ran acrossed a spot that had some amazing new deer sign and huge tracks! So i threw up a stand yesterday at noon and tonight he had a 120 and a 150 or so walk by at 7pm. He called me at 9 and told me he ws on his way to track the big guy….I’ll keep you posted and post pics if he brings it home…..Wish Dean good luck! He’s a good shot so I’m not too worried.

September 21, 2005 at 1:22 pm #9947Keep us posted on that one. I had to run up to the cabin to get one more hunt in before I leave for the FLW Championship. I had two small bucks, a 6 & 7 under my stand for 20 minutes. They sparred one time for about 30 seconds. That was really cool No shooter to report, just nice to watch the two small bucks have fun. I am done now until early October

September 22, 2005 at 2:34 am #9974Unfortunately he never found the buck. Its too bad that it had to go that way especially to someone who had tried so hard to manage land and conservation for that very moment. He definatley put in his time and effort while searching as he is sickened by the thought and went for a walk tonight just in case he might run acrossed it by accident. Who knows, maybe the buck made it through. Sorry I have no pics, will post when it is my time!
