While we are on the subject a common mistake made by a lot of hunters (going back to Buckshot’s comments)people get a bow and their draw length is to long, which keeps you from being as accurate and getting tighter groups. Sure that extra inch may get you a little extra speed, but it kills your accuracy/consistency. I actually came down another inch when I got my Matthews. I now shoot a 28″ draw. Make sure you get the correct draw lenght and it is better to go a tad short than long! Just something to think about!

….and with the proper draw you won’t be getting a nasty bruise on your arm! I use to shoot a 31 inch draw for speed at archery tournaments. Consistency was lacking.
Now with my new Mathews Switchback I’m at a consistent 28 inch draw! Switchbacks tend to run an inch shorter in draw than other bows. No problem though…. everything about the Switchback in their ads are true! They are Very PRICEY, but worth every penny!
All in all there are MANY very good bows out there and it’s best to try out as many different ones as possible. Every bow is different just like we are also!
Good luck on the bow search and your season!!

Did I see a leaf turning red yet??? Not long now!!!

Does anyone have any comments about a Parker Hunter Mag? I’m thinking about purchasing one of them this year.

I have shot Parker now for a while and nothing but great things to say about them. I have never experienced a problem with my Parker and most of the guys i hunt with now shoot Parker too. FAST, QUIET, AND DURABLE. That is what a Parker bow is. Just plan great stuff from those guys. Good luck

Holy smokes guys, thanks for all the info. I have experienced shooting a bow that was to long for me. It is no longer a bruise, but a scar on the tender side of the left arm!! Rookies, what can you do. Last year was my first year trying to bow hunt, and man do I love it. I never did get a shot on a deer that I would have liked to harvest, but what a blast. Can’t wait for this year. I used a buddies nova which draw length was way to long, but having never tried it before I didn’t want to drop to much $ for the first round.
But this year I’m ready to get my own setup. I’m going to start at Schaeffer (sp) Outdoors in Burnsville, they were very good to work with last fall. Being a rookie, I had lots of questions and they answered every one.

Time to start shopping, need to get out and shoot asap.

    Thanks again,

    Jami

I purchased my Mathew’s Legacy from Schaefer and I’m very happy with the bow and their service!

I just purchased a Parker Hunter Mag this weekend and it shoots great! It is a lot faster than my older PSE Thunderflite express. It cost less than Matthews bows and shoots just as well. Now I just have to sell my old bow.
