Back in the days of playing Army up there, there was a ton of bowhunters. I know it is permit only.

There used to be a TON of deer up there. It was ridiculous!!!! Use to do mock “straffing runs” with the helicopters on them.

I have heard it is a zoo during bow season there but they do drag some big deer out of there. There still must be a lot of deer in there as this year they are offering a bonus tag so a person can take up to 2 deer. There is 2250 permits per 2 day hunt 4500 total.Should be just like Mille Lacs on opener.

Hooks and Josh apply each year. I’ve applied in the past, but haven’t stuck with it. If you want someone to apply with, let me know. It might just be the motivation I need to get back into bow hunting more.

I don’t personally hunt Ripley. But many of my freinds from the Brainerd Area apply. They have said there are a ton of people that hunt. They key is the control! Each hunter is given a section. Within this section you are only allowed to move so far. If you are caught wandering, there will be problems and fines. It is not like hunting uncontroled public land.

    Hope this helps.
