In the Des Moines register this week there have been alot of articles on reducing the deer herd. The legislators are getting involved I would reccomend voicing your concerns as the insurance companys etc are there in force and we could end up with changes that do not represent the deer hunters

First, the state needs to set up a registration process. Currently they do not register deer. They have no idea of how many deer are harvested each year. Second, they need to incourage harvesting a doe (on an earn a buck system or equivelant).
Even though I am a non-resident to Iowa, and the last thing that I want to see is non-residents buying licenses over the counter. The drawing system that they have is great (Even if you only get drawn every third year), it’s worth it. An increase in non-resident license quota’s will only ruin a great State for Hunting.JohnEnglerPosts: 53January 29, 2005 at 1:06 am #339410First, the state needs to set up a registration process. Even though I myself do not care at all if I shoot a buck or a doe I don’t beleive it is right to make somebody pass up a trophy buck that happens too come along befor they have a chance to shoot a doe. If the DNR wants people to shoot more does it would help some if they would lower the cost of the antlerless tags. I know a lot of people that do not think it is worth the price to shoot a doe. I don’t think this way because I’de rather eat a doe over a buck any day, but there are a lot out there that do. And my own opinion about deer getting hit by cars is that there are way to many people that don’t pay attention enough when they are driving. A no talking on your cell while driving law would help.

January 29, 2005 at 9:37 am #5552I am a non resident, could you tell us the cost of a license is for a resident and non-resident and also the cost for resident & non-resident antlerless tags.
There are allot of different choices for licenses in MN….
Resident fees
Deer $26
Bonus Permit or antlerless tag $13Non Resident fees
Deer $135
Bonus Permit or antlerless tag $67.50Here is all the info on License Fees
I have heard some talk of MN changing the way they charge for Non Resident fees, what ever your state charges for a Non Resident license that’s how much you would pay for a MN Non Resident license. For example if you live in Iowa and Iowa charges $300 for a Non Resident license that’s how much you would pay for a MN Non Resident license. That sounds fair to me.

January 29, 2005 at 6:58 pm #5553I think if they what to shoot more does then the doe tags should be free. I sometimes gun hunt in wi and they also what the does shot. What so stupid in wi is that you still need to send in to get a doe tag. Just about all the unit have unlimited doe tags. Also what iowa could do is a free anterless tag for nonresidents who get drawn.

February 2, 2005 at 3:25 pm #5591I am a non resident who grew up and lived half my life in Iowa. I regularly hunt Iowa and I see it as keep the NR quota the same, just let NR hunters harvest add’l does like the residents do. Its a no brainer. MN needs to be reciprocal in license fees, they are behind times.
