I’m back after a ferious end to this hunting season . I spent a few days before Christmas up in ND. Trying to fill my tag and shoot a few roosters. After having some great encounters in ND this year with some good bucks and a few with some P&Y’s, I would have to settle for harvesting a doe, to put some meat in the freezer but to also help manage my buddies Farm. I arrowed this one on a deer drive with a bow, from my favorite stand the Knobby! It was a cool morning with temps in the single digits. I sat this particular morning and seen 9 deer, with 7 coming within bow range. As pre arranged @ 9am my buddy Paul would push from the south end as deer were bedded down there. I had about 15 deer coming at me I was just hoping they would slow down as they usually do. Sure enough I had a group of about 7 slowing down as they were coming through my shooting lanes. With it being the late season there is not much foilage at the knobby, so it is a tad more open then during the rut. I pulled back and was eyeing the biggest doe I had a good shot at and she came through broadside on a slow trot @ about 12 yards. I let’er RIP. Normaly I would have no worries shooting, but with the frigid temps and I was using my back up bow (PSE Sidewider). The deer shot off like a rocket, including the one I shot at. The arrow seemed to be placed quite well but I only got about 1/3 to half penetration. Paul finally made his way along with a few straggler deer. I got down and was glad to be able to warm up with the adrenaline rush of the “Post Shot Fever”

!! ! We found no blood for about the first 40 yards, but then found a fine mist sray on the snow. This doe made it about 100 yards or so before piling into a tree.

What a great year I had in ND. I seen a ton of bucks that have a great chance of being P&Y next year. Many bucks in the 110 to 125 class. These bucks up there really seem to make a big jumps from 2.5 to 3.5 and 3.5 to 4.5. years old. It was agreed upon to pass up this particular 9 pointer this year, which would score right around 125. My buddy Paul had him one morning at 35 yards and I had him that evening before I shot this doe @ 15 yards for about 10 minutes ! So I know he is going to be a brusier next year, with 140’s not out of the question!

Speaking of my buddy Paul. He harvested a 5×5 that will score in the 130’s on Christmas Eve. I need to get the pics, then I will post!

    Is it September yet?????????
