I’m not a deer hunter so I thought I would ask some of you experts. My neighbor in Rochester shot a small 3 point a couple of weeks ago, skinned it out in his garage and then tossed the head and the hide in the backyard for the whole world to see. Is this legal and what is the proper way to dispose of the body?

Well did he throw it in a compost bin at all? I leave buck heads hangin in trees so they rot out to make European mounts. but i live in the country more. Im not sure if there is laws against it at all. Any public land you will see dumped deer carcases around here. Its verygood for the land and different types of animals. But I see what your saying, if it is just laying out in plain view in a neihborhed.

December 18, 2004 at 6:30 pm #5076If it is in his back yard, there probably isn’t much you can do legally….he owns it….BUT, as a neighbor, you could ask him if he could maybe move it, as it really isn’t something people want to look at everyday….
Personally i think it is kind of inconsiderate…As hunters, we should try to dispose of remains a little more discretely…

December 18, 2004 at 7:16 pm #5077He did not put it out in a compost pile its just laying in a pile behind his garage. I think inconsiderate is an understatement and reflects negatively upon the sport. As far as talking to him I don’t have allot of tack discussing these kind of things with inconsiderate neighbors. I would probably tell him where he could stick the deer, boat and construction equiptment thats left in the street for weeks at a time in front of my house.

December 18, 2004 at 7:48 pm #5080My in-laws like to hang whats left of the carcuss in the tree in the yard so it will attract birds threw the winter. Never did want to bring this subject up with them. I do understand all the different birds it attracts is neat but hey, You have a dead deer hanging in your tree. It is really cool when they get 2 or 3 going.
Yes they are country folk.
Look-A-like. There needs to be more neighbors like you out there. Ones that are sensable anough not to start problems with the neighbors over small stuff. Heck thats what tall fences are made for.December 18, 2004 at 7:48 pm #332423My in-laws like to hang whats left of the carcuss in the tree in the yard so it will attract birds threw the winter. The birds pick of the excess meat and chipmunks take care of the bones.
Look A Like, you could send an anonymous letter to him asking if he could remove it from his yard.
