Madison — The DNR gave its preliminary deer season report to the Natural Resources Board on Dec. 7, stating that 303,162 deer were registered during the nine-day gun season.
“The 2004 seasons were designed to make progress on herd control, and archers started off the year doing just that,” said Tom Hauge, director of the DNR Bureau of Wildlife Management.
However, the antlerless deer harvest during the nine-day gun season appears to be down. The preliminary registration of 179,662 antlerless deer is 3 percent fewer than in 2003, although it is 15 percent more than 2002.
