Just thought i would throw this question out there and get some feedback from you guys.

Do you feel it is wrong if a buddy offers you his bow tag to use freely until the season is over b/c he knows he won’t have a chance to fill it? Is it legal? would you use it?

In MN there are so many ways to take a deer legally and you can take up to five in most areas that I do not feel the need to break the law and use someone else’s tag. Also in MN it is legal to party hunt so if that person is in the woods with you it is legal to use his tag. If party hunting was not legal and you could only take one deer I would not use someone else’s tag if it was breaking the law.

I’m not sure how the laws read in Wisconsin, but I know this is a big NoNo in Iowa. I think the Iowa law reads that you can’t ever have someone elses tag in your possesion, or something to that extent. I know for a fact that it happens, and dont have a huge problem with it, but its one of those things that happens and doesn’t get talked about……..

I agree that there are plenty of tags available for someone to shoot deer…

Obviously the only reason something like this would be done would be to harvest an additional buck…

(NO, i’m not doing this, just creating topic of convo.)

I myself would not do it. Not only is it not worth losing my license over, I just wouldn’t feel right. I also wouldn’t do it to shoot another buck. My thinking is this, if you have already harvested a buck on your tag, and wished it was a better one, a person should not have shot the first buck. My thinking might be different then others, but that is how I feel about that

Plenty of tags here too but it is ILLEGAL. If we expect to put the hammer down on game violators, we have to practice what we preach. What’s the cost of a tag compared to tarnishing your standards for everyone else.

I guess as a former law enforcement officer and classroom teacher I couldn’t expect others to abide the rules while I “fudged” on em myself.

Sounds like a resounding NO Slop.

I would have to say no too….but then I’ve never filled my own tag…much less even thought about someone elses.

That is a very tempting idea that I’m sure we’ve all considered. Obviously it would be to tag another buck seeing as we can take up to 5 total. But like you guys said, practice what you preach. It seems as if once you harvest a nice buck early, you countiue to hunt for does and a another nice buck will show his face tempting you. But unless my buddy was in the woods with me I guess I couldn’t do it.

In Iowa during Shotgun seasons, it is legal to fill another persons tag, but they have to be in your group. So I couldn’t really take some guys tag and fill it if he wasn’t also out there with us.

Bow season, muzzle loader, I don’t think it is allowed at all. Tag can only be used on a deer that the person whose tag it is shoots.
