With only a few weeks of bowhunting left, the year is about to come to a close. I myself had another great year. Sure I would have liked to get one more deer for the freezer, but it just wasn’t meant to be . I had less time in the woods this year than in the past due to work, and that wasn’t fun. I got to see the sunrise on a few occasions and got to see many sundowns. There was as always, plenty of action with all the other critters running around, when the deer weren’t. I had coons try to climb in the stand with me and many close encounters of the tree rat kind. I am sure we all got to sweat and swat mosquitos during the early season . I didn’t make any bad shots on deer with a bow and all were very short tracking jobs. A friend and myself harvested 5 does with our bows of this property this year, neither took a buck. I did get a buck with the trusty .243, but I am not a big gun hunter. I do it just because I guess. The deer numbers where I hunt were good until gun season, then they all plain outsmarted me and won the game . The only bad thing about the year was when the landowner informed me they might be selling the land by next year . That land will be pretty tough to replace, it is outstanding. But, I don’t blame them, they have to do what’s best for them. Overall, I am pleased with my season and had a great time

    Amwatson,

Seems like you always have deer stories and you must have some good land to hunt by the sounds it. I know land goes for a pretty penny now a days, but you should really try and invest in it if possible. One thing I do know is that hunting land doesn’t come around to often and it isn’t going to get any cheaper. I am sure you have thought about this a long time ago, but just a quick 2 more cents for ya.

Good luck and hope everything works out for ya.

Looking back on the 04 season for me is with mixed emotions.Early season saw alot of action but no good shots with the bow. Then came the short rut period.Bucks all over the place.Had a shot at a nice 8 but missed.Next day along came a 4 pointer and down he went. The shot was perfect and the deer didnt run all that far.My fisrt buck with my bow after 10 years of trying.Drew back on a doe as well but she heard the arrow going back and bolted befroe I could get a shot off. Then came T-zone doe hunt.Opening morning I saw a huge 10 two different times. It was a wall mounter for sure.Didn’t see any does during that 4 day hunt.During the regular gun season I shot a doe at 8:30 Saturday,Missed a doe at 11:00 on Sunday what a bummer sit that long and then get caught napping and have to make a hurried shot at a fast mover.Clean miss. Then next day out for me was Thanksgiving morning shot a doe at 9:30,my next trip to the woods was Saturday after Thanksgiving shot a doe at 9:00 or so.Sunday I saw my 1st buck of the gun season at about 9:00 but he was 80-100 yards out and moving like he just stole a purse. After that I took the bow out again and went back to harvest a doe alas I saw four but they were out to far for my taste. Then we had a second T-zone doe hunt.Only saw 2 deer the whole time and that was the last day .Wouldn’t ya know they were both horned fellows. But all in all a great and fun season for me. I still have a few more trys with the bow to shoot a doe so hope is still alive for me.
