Help out a young hunter

    Hey guys,

I recently recieved the follwing e-mail from a very nice young hunter from Petersburg, Indiana. He’s been busting his bum out in the woods and fields over the last 5 – 6 years looking for sheds but has had minimal luck. He’s hoping to start a nice collection and he mailed me looking for any sheds or racks I might be willing to send him… but I don’t hunt.

So… I was wondering if any of you guys out there might be willing to pass on a few of your racks you might have stashed in the garage or attic? I think it would make this young hunter’s YEAR if someone from IDA cared enough to send him a shed or two. I wish I could do it myself but I’m a “fish only” guy these last 10 – 12 years so I figured if anybody would help out, it would be some of the guys that visit the site.

Here’s his first e-mail to me:

    Quote:

Hi, I am a shed hunter myself and shot my first buck last weekend. As soon
as they start dropping the sheds I am going to be looking for them. I was
hoping that you had some old antlers or something that you wouldn’t mind
passing on to some one. I am 15 and have found only 3 sheds in the past 5
or 6 years looking for them. I have taken numerous animals while hunting
and enjoy hunting in all forms. I think I like shed hunting as much as I do
whitetail hunitng. Thanks very much. I thank you for taking the time to
read my email. I hope that you respond to it, and maybe send a few sheds my
    way. Thank you very much!!!
    Daniel Johnson

I didn’t post his mailing address with the post but if you’re interested in sharing something with him I’ll be happy to give you his mailing address if you shoot me a PM looking for that info.

    Thanks much guys!

hey James, do you know if hes got access to a computer as i could tell him how to make a simple fence and bait it with corn to knock off the racks as they get ready to drop. I’ve got my ratteling rack and can’t part with them but a few good ideas from the site here and it would make the odds better of him finding some. I know that alot of animals use the antlers as a food source so often enough thier not on the ground long. If we knew when he would be online we could post our ideas.

Mossydan If ya could Pm me that rack trap I guess ya could call it that would be great. I have seen them on E-Bay you can get moose and elk and deer cheap. Maybe we can set up someone to mail them all to and we can mail a whole box to the kid that would be great. I may have a few small odd ones laying around.

I know alot of us will be more then happy to help him out. He’ll probably get alot more information on the side too when it comes too deer hunting, he’s a good young man headed in the right direction!

James, I’ve inherited some antlers no one in my family shot. They were legally taken by road kill clean up crews and if he’d like them, I certainly would love to get rid of them. I never wanted them in the first place but I was saving them for a guy that makes stuff out of them…….. only he never came to get them. Let me know!

James, I have a couple dozen 8 or more point racks hanging around. I could part with a couple if it would help this young man out.

Wow, this is really nice of all of you. I like to hunt sheds and came to James in an e-mail. I am really shocked at how many nice people there are here! I like anything to do with the outdoors. I had killed my first buck the 2nd weekend of the KY gun season while hunting with my grandpa. I was really excited! Thanks guys. This means the world to me! Thanks very very much!!!!

This is my official welcome to the site, Daniel, aside from our PM’s. I’ll get the antlers to you in a few weeks as I am busy with ice fishing gear and pheasant hunting at the moment.

Any pic’s of that buck to share?

    Hey Daniel! Welcome aboard!

I had a set of antlers once…I mounted them on my garage…I kept hearing this strange noise…then I found it to be squirrels.

Those tree rats just love antlers…

    Take care…Briank
