Corn holding deer in Southern Wisconsin

Standing corn is frustrating the efforts of a lot of hunters in southern Wisconsin. After opening weekend of the gun season the whitetails got smart fast and holed up in the corn. Although the grain harvest is progressing pretty much on schedule it seems like every township has a field or two still standing.
Bullwinkle himself has scrape lines on both sides of an 80 acre field in Rock county which he has been tending under cover of darkness—even through does around here are pretty much done with November estrus.
The farmer plans on picking this field next week. Since we’re in the herd reduction zone here with a season running until next year, the future of this 17 pointer is in doubt.
…….of course my chance of busting a cap on him are slim. No doubt he will fall victim to some old lady in a Buick!
