A nice little plug by Outdoor Life for Winchester’s most expensive ammo……Winchester Supremes. Glad I reload, cause I would rather not see the effects of 2″ + groups when that big buck is at the edge of range. Good article though!

    Thanks Steve,
I have been a long time .270 fan, and have have home loaded a 130gr boattail with very good success. Need to get back on the range and workup some more loads. Miss that, and It’s fun. Jack..

I recently picked up a new 2002 Sauer in .270 Jack.

    I got sub-MOA with 60 gr of H4831 behind 130 gr Partitions
I also got great results from 52.5gr of H4350 pushing 140 gr Sierra GameKing HPBTs.

    Tom,
I to use a load of H4350 at 52.5 gr. for my .270 but I use 130 gr. Barnes X bullet (in like a nickel, out like a cash register). Funny how this load works so well for my model 70 bolt gun but doesn’t shoot for crap out of my Remington auto loader. In that gun the best ammo I’ve found is 150 gr. Noslers and 50 gr. of powder. Factory loads even shoot better for accuracy.
I do have to comment on some of the posts I’ve read about how down people are on Auto loaders for accuracy. I agree with it with one exception. When hunting for deer in our neck of the wood they are a very acceptable rifle. These guns will hit a paper plate at 200 yds and up here you will very seldom take a shot over 100 yds. Not having to jack another round in the chamber is a nice convenience. Anyway most of us only shoot once anyhow so that can be a moot point too, but I refuse to take head shots where I would need more confidence in the rifle. I do love to run the ammo through that thing target shooting for fun.
For the long range hunting though, a bolt gun is the only way to go.
