Guessing by the size of that tree, it’s not a little fellow doing the rubbing either.

I agree Waterfowler, all the big rubs i’ve seen had bigger bucks doing the damage. I know that the littler ones work over the saplings and small trees. By the looks of this one he just recently started to work this tree over and will probably come back. A trail cam on this one would be nice Steve.

That has to be a real nice deer doing that damage. Three years ago we had a rub like that in our back yard. I was lucky enough to get a good look at this guy. He was a massive 14 pointer. The funny thing is I saw him on opening of rifle season, so while my dad was up north seeing nothing I was peering out the window at a monster deer. This year the same tree is all tore up again. Three years ago 14 points, this year maybe 20? Anyone with a deer cam anywhere near Ramsey, lets get together and get some shots of this deer.

I am not totally convinced that this is a big buck yet. One school of thought on rubs is that just because the tree is a thick one does not mean that it’s a big buck working the tree. These rubs are low to the ground and could have been done by a young buck, but if the rub was high off the ground not at the base of the tree then you know it’s a big boy. I am short on funds right now, anyone in the Rochester area have a camera they want to set up in my back yard?

I agree with others. It seems you have a big boy lurking your yard. Here is a pic I took the other day. I caught this one by the fire pit lurking one afternoon.
