Got this guy at 7:45AM this morning 8 points maybe 9, has one small point on his right side, I am not sure if that counts as a point or not but I will find out when I get him scored. Either way he is going on the wall!!

My 9 year old daughter Emily took this pic and the next one below, way to go Emily

Great job Steve! Nice lookin buck!

You don’t looked dressed right for a gun opener though???? Where’s the stocking cap and gloves???

If you want to know if it’s a legal point, Steve. Take a piece of tape and line it up on top of the main beam so that makes a straight line across the base of the point from one side of the point to the other. Then measure up from there. If it’s over an inch it’s a legal point. Which would then be a deduction from your total score. No matching point on the other beam.

It doesn’t matter… it’s a pretty deer. Did you get in the Rochester area?

Nice Looking buck Steve!! I see the tuff of hair gone by his front leg is that where you hit him. How far away was he and how far did he go befor he dropped, how much did he weigh out at, Let us know the story. The tine looks like an inch, i know its close to 7/8″ to 1-1/8″.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I will try and answer all your questions.

Yes I got him not too far from my house, this area is pretty much undisturbed until gun season as the farmer will not allow bow hunters on his land as he punctured a combine tire with a broad head one year. Also I have the area to myself for the buck season!

Emily did not go hunting with me as I was afraid that it would have been too cold for her in the early morning, I plan on taking her on an after noon hunt one day this week after school, I have friends who still have tags to fill. Yes she was very excited to see dad get his biggest buck so far, she can not wait to turn 12 when she will get to go hunting too!

I was in my stand by 5am, this is a very nice stand I might add not only is it in a hot location but the stand is very comfortable as well, it is a permanent stand with a ladder and a big platform with a rail around it kind of like a small deck, there are three of these stands on the property. These stands were built by the previous hunting party that use to lease the land, Thanks guys! This Stand is three quarters of the way up a deep gully with a highway of a deer trail at the very bottom, from the stand to the bottom of the gully is about 50 yards. The deer have every thing they need here, water plenty of cover and they use the gully to get to and from there bedding and feeding areas. I saw this guy coming down the trail about 7:45AM at first I could not tell if it was a buck or a doe but then I saw one of the main beams and I knew he was a shooter! He was walking at a pretty good clip with his nose to the ground on the hunt for a hot doe. I gave him a quick doe bleat and he stopped in his tracks, I took a shot and he took a few steps and stopped again and looked around as if to say what was that? I took a second shot and the same thing again but this time he moved a few yards instead of a few steps, and stopped again, at his point I have no idea if he is hit or not! While he is still standing I took a third shot and he dropped like a rock, from the first shot to the third shot was about 15 seconds. I climbed out of the stand and started heading down to the bottom of the gully, when I got to the deer he was still alive he could lift his head but was not able to get up on his feet. Another quick shot just behind the shoulder and it was all over. As for the tuff of hair gone by his front leg I am not sure if that is from one of the first two slugs grazing him or from fighting with another buck. The way he went down and could not get back up on his feet I must have hit something vital. I do not know what the buck weighed as the person that processes my deer does not have a scale but after my neighbor and I dragging him up and out of that gully I am sure he was pushing 200lbs before I dressed him out. By the way if you need someone to process your deer TC BIRD does a great job at a very reasonable price.

Thanks for the offer Steve but still have a few from last year in my freezer. Been seeing does and small bucks from my bow stand almost daily so shouldn’t be too hard to fill a tag. Just keeping the doe bait around right now for Mr. Big who hasn’t shown himself yet.
