I think we all pretty much know what to use when rattling, but my question is, what are your rattling sequences? I usually start by grunting, then go into the actual rattle battle adding grunts intermediatly, getting more intense as I go and finally coming to a slow down hault (lasting anywhere between 4-10 mins). I generally then wait 30-45 minutes, then try it again. I’ve had some success rattling, but generally with the smaller guys- no P&Y’s. I have actually rattled in the same deer in 3 consecutive rattling sequences. He wanted to know what was going on but couldn’t quite figure it out. They’re so much fun to watch, even if they are small! What tactics do you guys use rattling?

I start out with the light grunting too……Just to make sure theres not an aggresive buck real close. When I start rattling though I start out with some light banging…Again, just to make sure there’s not one close that I may spook. After that I’ll give them a short period of time then do another series fairly loud and then a longer wait of course. If none of the above worked then I will move into a all out battle type situation. There are so many variables though……The two most prominent would be the stage the deer are in and also the location you are hunting.
