What are you using for light for tracking deer (following blood)? What works the best?? I’m currently using a coleman lantern, lots of light, hard to handle, fire danger.
I probably watch to much CSI, but I’m looking for a light that illuminates blood.

    What are you guys/gals using?

I hyave always used a lantern too. They work much better than a flashlight unless there is alot of blood. But when it gets sparse nothing seems to beat a lantern.

Just went through that looking for Bob’s deer two weeks ago – two things worked well #1 – a rechargebale Coleman flourescent light #2 – 2,000,000 candlepower spotlight – blood spots show up well under flourescent, spotted the deer 20 yards away with big light. Found that much like a regular Coleman lantern, the flourescent casts a relatively wide and soft glow

I use a coleman lantern also. But to give yourself a little more light and to keep it out of your eyes try taking tin foil or aluminum foil and wrapping it about 2/3 of the way around the lantern. It seems to direct the light a lot better and your eyes adjust a lot better in the dark with that.

I had heard about the foil trick once before and forgot all about it. How do you attach it to the outside of the globe?

I’ve used cordless spot lights, and they work really well while they last. Battery life isn’t the best.

the best way i have found to attach it is to wrap it around the handle and fold the top and bottom so it is touching the lantern(that way you wont lose as much light). hope this helps

I’ve found a coupla deer I’d thought were lost by using
Hydrogen peroxide in a squirt bottle. When the peroxide
contacts blood,it bubbles, and you can see it with any light.

I have tried that a couple of times now and it works pretty good. It works great if you or someone with you is color blind also.
