Ok… the cold weather has me in a tizzy ! Here are a few pics of harvested deer from the land I hunt in ND. The first one here was taken 2 Falls ago in pre-rut time. The “RAKE” Buck (as we call it)was an 4×4 (8 pointer) that netted right around 140″. The brow tines are around 8″. He got his name by the even length tines resembling a rake. This was the only time this Buck was seen. No one knew of this buck. Just goes to show there are such things as ghosts. My buddy Greg arrowed him @ 20 yards, from my favortie stand “The Knobby”. I have personally taken a near trophy from this stand (would have scored in the low 130’s, but broke a tine losing 10″ ). I have also had an encounter with a 150 class 5×5 from this stand 2 years ago . Can’t wait to sit there again!

The next pic was a deer shot 3 days later than the Rake Buck. This buck was shot off of an encounter that would love to be taken back. The buck harvested below is just short of P&Y (123 7/8″), but harvested out of emotion of losing the BIG one. My buddy Paul was on stand one evening and had deer all around him. When he caught the movement through the woods of Mr. Big. Mr. big was estimated by 3 different avid hunters to go at least 180 with 13-14″ G2’s. Mr. Big was closing the distance from Paul working his way out of the timber to the cornfield. Pauls stand is set up about 20 yards off the cornfiled on a powerline. When he was about 75 yards or so away. A doe rolled down wind of Paul and started to stomp and then porceeded to blow! He was busted and Mr. Big did not hang around one second. He shot off like a rocket back to the thick timber. Paul out of frustration pulled back and was going to hit the doe and tag it with his extra tag. The doe also had other plans and took off before he got the chance, but low and behold this nice 5×5 was 10 yards away watching the commotion. He became the unlucky fellow who was greeted by Mr. Easton delivered by Mr. PSE! Mr. Big was never seen or heard from again. Perhaps he will be waiting for me this year on the Knobby!??? Just goes to show you what those big boys can do to you. Paul has taken numerous deer larger than the one above, but admits to having his emotions get the better of him from Mr. Big’s encounter. Although happy to have harvested a great deer, he said a lesson was learned.

August 24, 2004 at 5:14 am #3005Here’s the one I got last year in Northern Wisconsin. He was shot only 30yds away with the old .300 WSM. It was so nasty that day I didn’t get a very good picture.

August 24, 2004 at 3:22 pm #3007The pic on the avatar is me. I’m holding onto a cat that I caught on the Chippewa. It was 14#. I caught it on an ultra lite pole. My arms just hurt after.
