I feel more than a little sick this AM. My grandfather gave me the .22 he used in his childhood a few years back. Somehow he managed to keep the barrel flawless in regards to rust and pitting and the stock look nearly brand new. When I put it away this last fall after a little plinking I cleaned and oiled everything and put it in a new gun case. Up into the closet it went.
I just opened up the case and everything looked great… until I got to the last 2″ of the barrel. Somehow some moisture got in contact with the barrel or some debris was in the case that attracted the moisture and held that moisture in contact with the metal.
I have a spot about the size of a pencil eraser. It’s not just surface rust. It seriously pitted the metal. What to do guys? I want it looking brand new again or I’m going to be sick! Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated.
