I received this in an e-mail, not sure of its authenticity.

This happened in Fond du Lac County last year when this guy was holding a wounded deer down in order for his brother to finish it off with one last shot. Someone flinched I guess.

    Steve…………..

I wouldn’t want my kids looking at this. It’s not entertaining nor is it in the format of being educational. Run it past James but I’d like to see it removed bud.

That is amazing…..I’d like to hear the entire story of those pics.

Ken my bud, Always value your posts , but i say let this post stay. It does educate on what can happen if you don’t use good judgement and safety at all times when dealing w/weapons. Granted it is kind of gross, but awesome at the same time.

I would think that any kids who routinely visit this site are mature enough to handle the content. They probably see worse things in pop-up ads from randomly surfing the net.

My son is 12 and just started shooting a bow. I plan on showing him as an educational tool. Maybe too much for younger kids but not when they reach an age that involves hunting. Of course as a former Air Force medic not much bothers me.

I don’t have a problem with the post, but maybe when posting pictures of a graphic nature, we could put something in the subject line about it.

Good points here by everyone, this post was intended to be educational. How about I give this title and any posts in the future that might be questionable for kids (which I do not think I will post anymore) A PG13 rating in the title?

See these pictures posted in the bait shop in Guttenberg every time we stop by there. The story on the pictures up there is different though. If I remember correctly the story was the the man was with his brother in-law and they were bear hunting. They one man had injured a bear and they both went off looking for it and the man shooting the bow saw something in the brush and took for granted it was the bear and ended up shooting someone in the process. Whichever story may be true this still teaches us to always identify our targets before we take a shot, because it could change our life and possibly end someone elses.

    Hi

I just stumbled in to this post, so excuse me for being rather late in to the discussion.

I have seen these pics in the past, the man in the pictures is from the Burlington Vermont area. The man in the pictures was hunting deer with his brother, who was standing to the side of the victim with a drawn bow, while the victim was shooting at a deer. The victim bumped his brother, causing the brother to turn and release his arrow. The fact that they were close together saved the victims life.

This article surfaced on ESPN Sports back in Oct of 2001, and originally reported by the Associated Press. Here is the original URL, it is still active.

    http://espn.go.com/outdoors/hunting/news/2001/1015/1264454.html

The pictures are no longer linked to the article (unfortuneatly), but they match those I downloaded when I originally saw the story.

I am a Firearms Safety & Bow Hunter Ed. instructor for the state of MN. I use this story and the pictures in the classes I teach. I pass out a copy of the story, read it to my students, and then we discuss it. I then offer the pictures to anyone who wants to see them, with the warning that they are graphic. No one is forced to look at them. So far, no student has refused to look, and no one has gotten sick. No parent has objected to the article or pictures.

Once a youth is old enough to want to hunt, and accept the responsiblity of carrying a firearm or bow, and to make the decision to kill an animal (lets be perfectly blunt about it), then they are old enough to understand what can happen if they don’t follow the rules. This article and the pictures is a dose of reality – as to what can happen when we as hunters screw up and break the rules of safe gun and bow handling. I can stand in front of a class and talk for hours about safe firearm/bow handling, but this article is proof that its not just all hot air – that there are valid reasons for what is being taught.
