Some of you make your own and I’m envious but a lot of us have them made. For those that do most have their favorite place and mine is Hometown Meats in Inver Grove. I just picked them up today and their variety called spartan are a gourmet masterpiece. I kid you not. Also had them make fresh cheddar brats but I haven’t tried them yet. I get enormous satisfaction sharing them with neighbors and friends because most have never had better. One year I shared them with the local fire dept but those ungrateful monkeybutts wouldn’t even let me in the door to see their reactions! jester Hopefully they didn’t just toss them. Just wanted to share in case anyone was looking. Feel free to share your favorite butcher so we all know where to get the “good stuff” made. waytogo

Greg’s meats in hastings mn makes the best darn wieners. Coworker was the first to bring in his deer a few weeks back, they turned it around fast and he shared a package with me. I was planning on making wieners this year and now I know where the bar is set for me. Hope I can hit it on my first try! They were so good I’ve been tempted to bring in some meat. But $$$

I got another one to kill yet though before I get started making meats.

Greg’s is really good! I discovered them when our daughter and son in law moved there.

Hometown Meats in Inver Grove is the best! We’ve used Greg’s meats too for processing sticks and sausage but can’t beat the 3 min drive to Hometown!

I dont like the casing Greg’s uses for their brats. They do have dynamite sticks though. I am trying Duffs meats this year.

My sister lives less than 10 minutes from Hometown Meats. She took me there once when I was visiting her. I’m on the southwest side of the cities and make excuses to visit her so I can stop and pick up some sticks!!

Grand Champion Meats in Foley, MN. I’ve got 20 pounds of deer sticks to eat made by them. Its basically instant protein whenever I’m on the go.

I had sticks made there one time and I used to peel off their casing but the sticks were good. Very good. My wife and I talk about them once in a while. I wish I had more venison so I could take some there.

X2 on Grand Champion meats. Their Garlic and Tangy Summer Sausage is GREAT. We have had summer Sausage made in lots of places over the years and Grand Champion’s is the best by far.

The expanded recently too. Instead of that tiny little retail shop on main street they now have an enormous barn-style showroom at the corner of Hwy 23 and Hwy 25. Business must be pretty good.

I moved to the north metro a little over a year ago from Inver Grove Heights.

The two places I miss the most are Black Sheep coffee and Hometown meats.

    I really miss Hometown Meats.

I hear Anoka Meats is pretty good but haven’t checked it out yet.

x2000!! Their Garlic Polish, hot dogs, and summer sausage are the best! x2000 because that’s probably how many people we’ve shared with over the years and always get glowing reviews. Garlic Polish has been our Christmas Eve dinner for decades.

Ye Olde Meat Market makes some really good jalapeno cheddar summer sausage also. Grand Champion in Foley, McDonald’s in Clear Lake, and St. Joe Meat Market are all very good too.

Yes Don I have used them for the last two years and have been happy. The jalapeno brats where on the spicy side for most who tried them. The sticks are good, everything has been good. I know some people that have been using them for 15 plus years. A friend uses Mcdonald Meats in St Cloud and there stuff is very good also, but to far of a drive for me. I was going to use Osseo this year but they want you to skin it and not that I can’t do that, just did not want to take the time to.

That little grocery store in Upsala has some outstanding sticks, but you have to bring in the meat all cut up. I havent had my venison done there, but have had their regular beef sticks and they are outstanding and this is coming from a guy he brings all of his deer to McDonalds in clear lake and I think those are the best I have had for venison. While Thielen makes good stuff I dont like the size of their sticks. I havent had Grand Champion in Foley, but heard many good things about them.
I have a buddy that lives up in Roseau and I couldnt believe how expensive his sticks were because of not many options. They didnt come vacuum sealed or cut up. He had to put them in smaller packages and vacuum seal himself. He paid double what I paid (at McDonalds) for less sticks. I offered to meet him halfway and drop them off for him, but that might be a next year activity. I guess we should all consider ourselves lucky with all the options around here.
