Nope, I try to be as stealthy as possible. The only thing I use is Nose Jammer

special golden estrus but when you use doe in estrus make sure its at the right time. Main thing you must be in the rut. Then try and time it so its when the wind switches big bucks will be at a disadvantage to the wind and will be on there feet and are more likely to fall into your trap.

Smells like vanilla? Why wouldn’t this stuff instantly spook deer or make them way cautious? I understand the concept of jamming the nose but why wouldn’t they spook or become very cautious? I would think becoming sent free on your own would be better than introducing a foreign smell into the woods?

We had huge fails with nose jammer. The small bucks will walk right through it, jamming their senses. The mature bucks get the f out of there!

I see it as similar to guys who smoke cigarettes or smoke their clothes. It’s not an intrusive smell. 90% of the deer in my experience know something isn’t quite right, but can’t figure out what it is. I don’t hunt a stand though if the wind is wrong, only on certain occasions. Nose jammer is only used if I’m in a spot where the wind is notorious for swirling.

I rarely use scent, but when I do it’s trials end 307. More of a cover scent than anything for me,although it is advertised as a lure and it does seem to work. I am done with all the “pure” doe in estres scents. Right now is about the time I start using the trails end 307 and right up through the rut, but they say it’s good all season long. Post rut I go back to being as scent free as possible.

I have used a home made nose jammer in the past and can honestly say I never got busted that I know of when using it.

I’ve had excellent luck with ConQuest scents – Both the Evercalm and the VS1

I just picked up a jar of James Valley Scents Full Rut. I’ll be putting it to the test on rifle opener with my bow in hand. I’ll give an update in a couple of weeks.

I used this on a couple of twigs on trails neae shooting lanes. Before legal light I had a nice buck stand at the base of my tree for a while. Then he went from one scented twig to another. He was activity searching for the deer he was smelling. He didn’t hang around long enough for me to be able to see the pins on my bow.

I also made a mock scrape for the first time in front of my camera. I used the JVS on the licking branch and in the dirt of the scrape. If I get any pictures I’ll add them to this post. I will continue to use it until I have a negative response.

I use various ones from time to time but I don’t really rely on them to actually do anything. Coincidentally the buck I shot this bow season was sniffing a wick of rickards old indian buck lure when I shot him. I had the scent with me because I was going to have it on my decoy, but that plan didn’t pan out (using the decoy) so on the way to the stand I was in I just threw it up on my way in for grins and giggles. The deer was responding to my grunting, so I think he would have came in the way he did regardless, but it didn’t hurt.
The best responses I remember seeing were back when I first started bow hunting. I can’t find it anymore, don’t even recall who made it, but it was a mixture of estrud doe and buck tarsal gland. Mostly small bucks responding, but for a beginning hunter it was pretty cool.
As far as cover scents, nothing will beat a wary deers nose. That being said, at least around here (way up north excluded) it’s not like deer never interact amd smell humans, so it’s more of not stinking so much they know there is a person where they shouldn’t be. I hunt in the coulee farm county of western wisconsin and outside of showering, keeping my clothes clean and only using them while hunting, stand placement with consideration for the wind and where deer likely will come from I rarely get busted solely because they smelled me, even when they come down wind.

When I first started bow hunting, first off I was limited in where I could hunt, but also didn’t really have the understanding I have now and pretty much hunted the same stand every time. It was about 150 yards away from our barn, I wore the same black coveralls that I wore doing chores. I literally smelled like crap, but was a pretty effective cover scent and would routinely have deer pass through downwind without busting me.
