think I take good care of my batteries, either group 29 or group 31 I’ve had, use them a LOT, always end up replacing them sometime in the 4th season, always.

How about a nuclear reactor like the subs, they can go a hundred years without a recharge. Lithium? Not in the budget-So are all AGMs the same or not? I hear a lot of people talking about Interstate (good and bad) but that is because they are everywhere-Is that great engineering or great marketing?

Had a Walmart battery hooked in parallel on my boat with a 2 year old interstate. Got 2 years out of the Walmart battery and got at least 2 more years out of the interstate. That’s a total of 6 or 7 good years from the interstate.

I may be migrating to agm now though. Just picked up an 30 series deep cycle/cranking. I wanted the best battery I could get for my downriggers and for starting my boat.

Good information here, so a follow up question …. If I get home after fishing and put an automatic charger on (AGM batteries) until they show charged (green) should I 1) leave the charger on, 2) unplug it and replug it in for a half hour or so before I go out again, or 3) unplug it and leave it unplugged until I get back from my next fishing trip. Usually my fishing trips would be 1 -3 weeks apart, but would also be interested in advice if the next trip were in just a few days too.

My agms(4 of them) are plugged in after use and unplugged only when the boat is either underway or leaving in tow behind the truck.
My chargers are 10 amp down to 1 amp maintance. Just short of 9 year life so far.

Same here, plug them in and leave them plugged in till you go fishing. That is if you have a good charger with a maintenance mode.

So Tumar, you are on an average of 5 1/3 years I think I would be feeling cheated.

Are yours lead acid then and not agm style?
