Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Monthly Newsletter. Thanks to everyone that gave us the opportunity to share our home with you this past month. It’s really been a pleasure to have the opportunity to see so many different people that love to do the same thing we do, FISH and have a great time doing it! I have also really enjoyed the many newly created fishing tales many of you have made during March.
March started off where February had left off, with Big Walleyes. As the month progressed we moved our houses off the Reefs to the mud, and it paid off with big numbers of Walleye and Sauger. We unfortunately weren’t getting the massive 30” to 32” Walleyes everyday like we were on the Reefs, but the numbers caught had improved and that lead to many more smiles, and that’s really what it’s all about.
Now that April is upon us and the Rainy River is completely opened up into Lake of the Woods, we will see an influx of boat activity in Four Mile Bay (right in front of the Wigwam), Lighthouse Gap and Rainy River. Walleye fishermen and Sturgeon fishermen alike will be fishing the same waters for both species this month. We will have plenty of Walleye fishermen fishing for some Monster Walleye until the season closes on April 14th, so that the Walleyes can make it up the Rainy River for there yearly spawn. Then as if having a line change in hockey (for all you hockey followers) the Sturgeon fishermen will jump over those boards to take their swing at catching some Monster Prehistoric Dinosaurs (The Sturgeon). Sturgeon will be caught in all sizes, but everyone will be looking for the “ONE”…maybe 80 plus inches…that would be AWESOME. I’m sure that everyone is looking to take their own pictures with a Sturgeon this year ?
ATTENTION STURGEON FISHERMAN!!!! I want to remind everyone that Sturgeon Fishing Season is right around the corner and the Wigwam Resort will be hosting two separate events for Sturgeon enthusiasts this April. There are still rooms and cabins available for the Fishing Minnesota Sturgeon Excursion April 16th, 17th & 18th, and there are only a few rooms left available for the In Depth Outdoors Sturgeon Excursion April 22nd, 23rd & 24th. We will be having a fish fry each Friday (17th & 23rd) and Roast Buffet on each Saturday (18th & 24th). Everyone is welcome to participate in each event…the more the merrier I say. If you’ve been waiting to fish Sturgeon this is the perfect time of year to do it…there will be plenty of people to help you find out all the secrets to a successful Sturgeon fishing trip. In this paragraph I want to talk about something that I talk about every edition, Full Service – No Hassle. The reason I do, is because it’s what either makes or breaks a great trip, so here we go again. Tami and the Bachelor will be the live entertainment the weekends of April 16th & 17th and April 23rd & 24th. We have dropped all of our lodging prices to our Spring Special price of $35 per person per night till the Walleye Opener on May 15th. For example, if you are already getting 15% off any midweek special and take your picture in front of the poster and e-mail it in, you would get an additional 5%, which would total 20% off.
