    Lake of the Woods
    February 2010 Monthly Newsletter

Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods… your destination for Year-Round outdoor enthusiasts. Lake of the Woods is an extraordinary body of water with over 65,000 miles of shoreline and over 14,000 islands. The Wigwam Resort is located 12 miles north of Baudette, MN (Walleye Capital of the World) and is in (arguably) the best position to access both Lake of the Woods and Rainy River. We cater to groups of up to 100. We will customize a package for you with a meeting facility, hunting, fishing, or what ever you need. Groups of 24 or more are eligible for group discounts or other incentives. As you navigate through our site, if you don’t see something you would like, please give us a call at (800) 448-9260 and one of our helpful staff members will accommodate you.

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Monthly Newsletter.
As we closed out another stellar month of fishing on Lake of the Woods, I look back at January and it most definitely didn’t disappoint. We saw a number of fish caught in January, some “Big Monster” Walleye and Northern Pike, and tons of 10″ – 19″ Walleye and Sauger. As any month goes, it had its ups and downs, but the ups most definitely out weigh the downs. I heard from at least 10 groups throughout last month, that the days they went fishing had been the best that they had ever experienced… that’s music to my ears. I hear that from a majority of people that are fishing Lake of the Woods for their very first time… there’s nothing quite like it. If you haven’t experienced Lake of the Woods, what are you waiting for?

February has finally arrived, which means “Reef Fishing” is back at the Wigwam Resort! The Wigwam is only one of a small handful of Lake of the Woods Full Service Fishing Resorts that make the 20 mile jaunt up to the “Reefs” to experience the best fishing Lake of the Woods has to offer during Ice Fishing season. People come from thousands of miles around this time of year to get their chance at some of the best Walleye fishing in the world… don’t forget Baudette, MN (Lake of the Woods/Rainy River) is “known” and even “named” the “Walleye Capitol of the World”. Just by that phrase alone, you should know that it doesn’t get any better than Lake of the Woods when you’re looking for Walleyes. The “Reefs” are just the “Cherry” on top of the “Biggest and Best Ice Cream Sundae” I’ve ever eaten. It costs a few bucks more to get up there, but when the fish are on, there is nothing better. There are limited openings per day for “Reef” fishing, don’t wait till it’s to late… book your trip today.

We would like to thank all of our guests so far this season that have stayed with us at the Wigwam Resort. We are about halfway through the 2009-2010 Ice fishing season and the mood and enthusiasm still resemble that of our opening weekend back in December. A lot of that has to do with our great and gracious guests. Our staff is always enthused to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one… we aim to please! We feed off everyone’s awesome attitudes and it’s great to be around so many positive people on a regular basis. So, thank you from our staff and myself for making our jobs so enjoyable.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to share my “story” with one of our guests. Through that conversation I learned that he was going to be inducted into the North Dakota State University Bison Hall of Fame. This gentleman has been a longtime patron of the Wigwam Resort and his name is Mr. George Gilmore. George was visiting us with his nephew this past week when he shared this great news. I just wanted to congratulate George on the induction… what an honor. George, I hope that day is a great day for you, your family and your teammates. Again, it’s an awesome honor and I hope you cherish it… Congratulations Again!

This month the Wigwam Resort would like to offer any person, the following deal. If you put together your groups’ fishing trips, then this is the deal for you. We have started offering the group organizers of groups of 11 or more people whom are first time guests with the Wigwam only, a 10% commission on each guest/friend they bring. Ultimately what it boils down to is, bring 10 paying customers and you get a free trip… you can’t go wrong with that one. For additional information, please call the Wigwam Resort at (800) 448-9260 and ask for Jean-Paul (JP), Colleen or Stephanie. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to be rewarded for going fishing on the world’s best freshwater fishery, Lake of the Woods!

I know that I talked about this last month, but I must say it again. There is no substitute for going out ice fishing in the right accommodations, and there is nothing like a heated bombardier, heated ice house, and arguably the best Walleye fishing in the WORLD to top off your experience on Lake of the Woods this winter. The Wigwam Resort has assembled a fantastic “customer service oriented” staff and we are ready to make your winter vacation to paradise exactly that, a vacation to paradise. We have made some improvements for our guest’s entertainment by adding a few more televisions in our lobby and bar. We want to make sure you don’t miss the big game, whatever it might be. We also have expanded our menu for a wider variety of fantastic food options, from specialty burgers, to roasted chicken dinners, and everything in between, which will be served exclusively at the Wigwam Resort restaurant… come try it out the next time you visit Lake of the Woods.

This month we look forward to that continued awesome ice fishing on the south side of Lake of the Woods. I have been hearing story after story about people that have made the trip up north to the “Reefs”. The lures of choice this year for the Walleyes and Saugers on Lake of the Woods have been the “Stop Signs”, “Macho Minnows”, “Gold Jigs/Gold Disco Balls” and “Jigging Rapalas”.

If you were a guest at the Wigwam and I didn’t get a chance to get your picture, please e-mail it to me with a little description and the size, and I’ll put it on the photo gallery and also on the TV (6 total) that constantly rotates pictures at the resort.

Any chance I could get one your local pizza guys to deliver about 50 miles away Can’t find any in my area and you’ll be sold out long before I can drive down there.

Was in Cabelas in Rogers last friday picking up a web order. Chatting up one of the guys in customer service he told me that on Wednesday they got a delivery of 700 boxes of 9mm and we’re out on Thursday.

Can’t wait for all this silliness to be over!
